First Flight NX Beta = Fireball XL-5?

I saw the episode First Flight for the first time last night, and was struck by the similarity of the NX Beta ship to the Fireball XL-5 ship from the 60s children's show of the same name. For those who don't know what I'm talking about:

uh a little but that design goes back further then fireball.
both owe some to when worlds collide.
