First Contact Enterprise vs. Nemesis Enterprise

Why does the bridge module have to have been replaced? They could have had a major refit, as suggested by John Eaves. It's not that hard to tear down a few walls and rebuild them differently to accomdate new equipment.

Whatever causes consoles to explode runs in those walls, id hate to be the one to have to cut them apart.

Who said they're throwing it away? They probably break it down into raw matter and turn it into a shuttlepod and a case of phaser rifles next week.

Still, it's retarded to replace an entire deck like that. I would expect it to be much easier to replace a few walls than an entire deck. :wtf:

You can thank the Utopia IKEA Fleet Yards for that.

The commercials are true... You don't have to be rich... ;) :p

Look at it this way... if your tire is flat, do you go buy a new car?

Nope. But if one of those tiny lamps in my dashboard burns out, buying a new car is the cheapest option. Seriously.

(She's an Opel Astra 2002 station wagon, about 18,000 euros/bucks at purchase, in pristine order; the lamp would cost about ten cents. But ripping open the dashboard would cost several thousands in spares because many of those covers cannot be removed nondestructively, and the end result would still look like shit. Talk about built-in obsolescence...)

We have to remember that the Enterprise E has in Star Trek terms outlived the Enterprise D. The D was 7 years old at the time of its destruction, and the E at the time of Nemesis was 7 years old. A refit to some exterior and interior details is not unsusual when you think of it like that.

Actually thats a really good point I hadnt considered, given that technology in the 24th century probably doubles capability every month or so in 5 to 6 years most ships would need some type of new refit.
