First Clear Picture of the Narada *Spoilers?* [not final toy image]

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

It looks UnTrek like. It is from the future, as I understand. So, if it's from the future, why would it look like something fron ENT?

The future of what?

Nothing in this film is visually designed to fit snugly into the old continuity. It's meaningless to look at a prop, or a set or a model and ask "how does this fit between X and Y that we've seen" or say "this is out of place next to thus-and-such a thing that came before" because everything has been redesigned for this film. The very premise that everything can be charted in its place in previous Trek design is a mistaken one. They are using what makes sense to them to use and changing what they choose to change.

It is that simple.

Which is just about Everything...

And which will probably (IMHO), make Trek no more appealing to 'The Masses', than it was before hand.

Just because You Can Change Everything, Doesn't Mean You Should.

And, to Quote You... IT IS, That Simple...

I certainly am.

You would! :p

It can't do "Star Trek" one iota of harm.

If this movie tanks, all the fans who are horrified by the changes will have exactly what they have now in terms of "Star Trek" and they can congratulate one another on being right.

What they can't have is what they want from the studio. Not now, not next year, not ever...because the only people to whom that makes sense are a few million trekkies and their numbers are dwindling rather than growing.

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

I just want this movie to reflect on TOS. As it is now, it looks nothing like TOS.

"Take out the giant squid! Put back the giant green hand!"

From what I understand, the Narada is from the TNG/DS9/VOY era. So sticking by the story, no matter what vessel goes back in time, it probably wouldn't have looked like TOS anyway.

Pehaps... but driving away the (according to you) few of Us left, may not be such a great thing either.

I'm not horrified by the changes....

I'm disappointed by the fact that They felt that They had to change so much.

And I don't want Trek to fail, but unlike you I don't believe that keeping more of the original intact, would have been such a horrible thing either.

I also doubt that there will be very many of US going around congratulating Ourselves that Trek has failed, once again.

You make such matter-of-fact statments... and really don't have anything but your opinion to back them up... for all I know you may be right, but having you constantly shoving them down folks throats who post dissenting opinions is getting rather tiresome.

Perhaps those dwindling few that felt keeping more of the original intact are correct, perhaps not...but We will never know now.

As far as the topic-at-hand....

Since the Narada is apparently from the TNG Era, I have no problem with how it looks and I like what another posted here earlier... it does kinda sorta have the same feel as the Romulan ships from ENTERPRISE.
A nice nod there.

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

It's a giant space squid. It freeks me out and does not give me a single trek feeling in my hole body.

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

That is true. But Romulan ships from TNG/DS9/VOY era looked like birds, not squids.

We saw what... perhaps 4 (5?) types of Romulan ships during the TNG era?

And weren't they all pretty much official ships-of-the-line types from the Romulan Government?

Who's to say what the rest may have looked liked.... apparently now, we have Squid shapes to go along with the Bird shapes.

All of the Romulan ships we saw in those series (and TOS, for that matter) were warships, though. Narada is supposed to be a mining ship which, one might assume, has different functional requirements and, necessarily, different design/configuration requirements. I'm interested in seeing how the relatively clean shape seen in the comic becomes/transforms into the more grotesque Space Cephalopod seen here and in the trailer images.

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

These pics appear to be leaked. I went to Wizard Universe and the page was deleted.

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

So there's my giant feather duster. I was wondering where it went.

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

I wonder what the hell the thing mines for...

Oil?

Ores?

Gasses?

Re: First Clear Picture of the Narada *Warning: Spoilers*

Man, I took that warning for granted.
