FIRST BluRay

NIUPonyBoy

I've owned a BluRay player for a few months, bought about 10 BL's in that time. I've been gone for most of it as well, today I am going to fire it up for the first time.

First disk in the pipe?

Star Trek X.

:bolian:

The new Star Trek movie box sets are pretty good, and the 2009 Trek movie is also pretty good on Blu Ray.

The ST2 copy on blu-ray is sadly color shifted, though. That was disappointing.

Star Trek X.

You really watched Nemesis first?
:vulcan:

Seriously, congratulations... I bought a PS3 in anticipation of ST XI coming out, and against all more reasonable intentions now own all of Trek currently avail on blu-ray with TOS season 3 on pre-order! (and maybe half a dozen other films)

Quickly becoming an HD snob, I am

I bought the Blue-ray version and I don't even have a player for it yet. I have to go to my friend's house to watch it. Luckily, he has a 50" plasma and it looks great. The vessel simulator looks pretty nice, although it still slightly feels CG-ish. I also bought the regular DVD for home, so I bought the movie twice. I'm such a sucker.

The amount of behind-the-scenes content on the Blue-ray disk is great. I think you could spend about 5 hours sitting in front of the TV if you're going to go through all the material (including the movie itself).

For what it's worth, Nemesis looks amazing on blu-ray as well. For whatever story problems it had, the technical aspects of the film's production are not lacking.

All 11 of them look pretty darned good in their original, theatrical (save Ayel's gun) goodness...

Trek XI Blu-ray

This is my plan too. I've been busy this week to pick it up though. For $24. its a good deal for Trekkers. Sure by Dec.2010 it will be on sale for $18. but that's okay and a year away... I only want to buy it once.

Can't wait to see ST XI myself. Have to wait until Xmas, though. I was under strict orders not to buy.

I bought a Blu-Ray player specifically for Star Trek. It's fantastic.

Now for the bad news. Every "regular" DVD I play in the Blu-Ray player starts to freeze up and skip after about 10 minutes. I returned the player to the store and brought home a new one. Same deal, they freeze up and skip (but not in the same places). Should I return this one, or is this typical of Blu-Ray technology? All my Blu-Ray discs play just fine. The manual says the player is supposed to play all types of media (DVD, DVD-R, CD, etc).

Or do I need two players, one for Blu-Ray and one for everything else? That's do-able too.

^ I found a couple of DVDs won't play or at least play well on my Blu-ray player, but most do. Off the top of my head i think they were only ones i borrowed from the library though. Are the DVDs that you tried to play very dirty or scratched?

No it absolutely is not. I've got a Sony blu-ray player that plays DVDs with no problem, nor does my PS3 have any problem with DVDs. So either you've got extrememly unlucky with two bad players, or your discs are screwed.

I take immaculate care of my discs. Some of them have been played exactly once. Maybe I need to return Blu-Ray player #2 and try for #3.

Anything is possible. I once had the alternator in my car go out, and the mechanic put in 3 "bad" ones before finally putting in one that worked!

I have an 'up-stepping' DVD player still for my huge DVD collection.

The DVD skip on a BL is somewhat common on certain makes. Hence why I kept the Upping DVD-player.

IN that case, yeah, i think you should return it and get another one. What a bummer!

The first Blu-ray movie I bought was Starship Troopers 3 Maurader.

It was in a sale. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it...

Move along now, nothin' to see here! :p
