Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

Drawing 523 / 2024 Artwork 56: Captain Misato Katsuragi and Chief Engineer Ryoji Kaji on the Bridge of the USS Nerv.

I'm really gonna have to stock up on dark warm grey markers for those Dominion War-era uniforms.
~ From the look on Capt. Misato's face, I'm guessing Ryoji's just told a lame joke or made some inappropriate comment

Really well done, as per :bolian:

I hear you about the greys (and blacks) - they're always the first to go when Starfleet becomes the subject matter. And I think @Santaman's on to something if you continue with the interiors! :D

Drawing 524 / 2024 Artwork 57: Spike Spiegel, just a simple bounty hunter, ma'am.

Your Spike Spiegel is one good-looking bounty hunter!

~ I just want to give them all a big hug, especially Mariner - that look on her face

:(. But especially Rutherford :wah:

It's just a small thing, but I really like how you've drawn and coloured their uniforms (and all the other clothes and uniforms you've done previously) - they really look like they're actual clothes with bodies inside (or something less creepy sounding).

That's a little touch I tend to do on all of my Lower Decks illustrations. It gives them a bit more life than the base animation and helps to make the drawing look more dynamic. I also use more shading than the show does - something I've picked up from all of my anime drawings that's just a default in my process.

Drawing 528 / 2024 Artwork 61: Cowboy Bebop's Jet Black.

Drawing 529 / 2024 Artwork 62: I finally saw Spy X Family: CODE White yesterday, and there was one sequence in particular that had me fucking rolling from its ridiculousness. I now present...
The God of Poop.

I shall provide absolutely no context whatsoever.

Just a couple drawings again this week because IRL things were occupying me as well as reopening the EVA-Trek writers room for pre-production on season 2! I'm currently deep into work on the S2 writers' guide and laying out the finer strokes of where I want the characters to go over the course of the next 15 episodes. I'd forgotten how fun these early stages of story development were, not bound by a production schedule as yet, and just blueskying ideas around the major setpieces I've got planned for EVA-Trek's five-year story arc.

Drawing 530 / 2024 Artwork 63: Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop.

Drawing 531 / 2024 Artwork 64: The Quintessential Quintuplets' Miku Nakano models the Dominion War-era Starfleet sciences division uniform.

I love how you used Miku’s commonly worn sweater for a reference for how she’d wear her uniform :adore:

The Quints’ school uniforms are super handy when I need to get a quick reference for how the Starfleet uniforms would drape over them.

IRL stuff had me busy this week, so there's sadly just a single illustration. I'd wanted to do more, but I was only able to gather so much energy from the tank.

This week flips my usual cute anime girls drawings to for some equal-opportunity fan service. I finally watched X-Men '97 on Friday and I couldn't help but draw HIM.

Drawing 532 / 2024 Artwork 65: Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit, in one of the most himbo looks I've seen a superhero wear.

I used to think Gambit was so cool back in the day.

And he's still got it!

(In your drawing, at least)

Another very very very busy IRL week for me, but at least I was able to get the motivation for a couple drawings. Doing some more topics that are outside my usual genres and trying some different things.

I also got curious about what my workflow had been like when writing the first season of EVA-Trek, so I made a quickie Gantt chart of when I started and finished writing and producing each episode:

Imagine my surprise when I saw that I was working on THIRTEEN SCRIPTS at the same time between last August and October! No wonder I was so utterly exhausted when I finished the finale a couple months ago!
