There were rumors early on, that Enterprise was actually going to have "vectoring" nacelles... that was making me nervous, and I'm glad they didn't go that way, in the end.![]()
The rumors were that the warp nacelles would actually move back and forth, or up and down.

I'll be sure to come in here and mention it, when it's all up there.Exactly.Yeah, I agree with you. We already have an established expectation of how warp engines are supposed to work and look during the TOS era and back.
Perhaps if they were to try to apply that idea to a truely unique class, similar to the Prometheus, it might be more acceptable, though there would still need to be an adequate reason for why we would want the warp engines to vector, because it has become fairly well established that warp drive works nothing like conventional forms of propulsion. It doesn't produce thrust. Its more like it pulls the ship forward and while pushing it's departure point away. If anything, if the warp nacelles were to move while at warp, I would think that might make the warp field unstable or something. Though what do I know?![]()
