Yeah, X2 was overrated, which is why X-Men The Last Stand never seemed so terrible to me. The previous two films were mostly decent, but not amazing.

I guess I had the same sort of thing with Spider-Man 3 in that I thought the first 2 were pretty good, but I didn't go crazy for them, so I found the hate from number 3 a little odd, in that I didn't see it as very different. maybe if I had it explained to me I'd see why.

I feel similarly about Spiderman. 1 and 2 were good, but not overwhelmingly so. But I disliked 3 because it seemed so unfocused, like three different films mashed together, not because it didn't "live up to" the previous films.

Agreed, but it's cute how you make it sound like they came out 20 years ago but they both came out in 2003 I think!

^ I don't think 'Mars Attacks!' is particularly highly thought of. At the time there was a lot of fuss but that was back when ID4 was still fresh in the memory and Burton still had a semblence of credibility...okay, that's a bit harsh, but it's been ages since he's made anything that wasn't a butchered adaption.

Reading inbetween the lines here you could offer Sweeney Todd as an example of a movie you found overrated.

Despite a lot of hate for it here and among critics not named Armond White, someone must've loved Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for it to make all the money it did.

Kids/teenagers and the parents who were dragged along. I have yet to meet an adult who liked Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. None of my co-workers liked it either. They're in their early-to-mid-20s, so they didn't grow up with G1 like I did but they still didn't like it. It's just not a movie targeted to adults. .

I'm an adult (36) who grew up watching the old Transformers cartoons and I loved Revenge of the Fallen. Me, my wife and son (9) watched it together and enjoyed the hell out of it.

We all also loved Star Trek...

While I don't take anyone at face value on the internet, I've seen worse, so it wouldn't surprise me if he were true either.

He gave himself away by saying the he thought the Silmarillion was okay, but LotR was rubbish.

No-one who dislikes LotR actually reads and enjoys the Silmarillion. Most people don't even know it exists. It just doesn't happen. If you don't love Tolkien's fantasy world, you just won't give a damn about its history...and that's just basically what the Silmarillion is: A history book.

But you're right, people have been known to say weird things on the internet and mean them.

I love Tolkien, but the Silmarillion is pretty hard to read at points (I kept having to go to the Glossary to figure out which version of Elves they were talking about this time). It's basically a book for people who read the Appendix in Return of the King and thought "I wonder if they made a book out of this."

That's fairly accurate in my case! I'd read LOTR and was engrossed in the Appendices (I'm a sucker for chronological lists and backstory/history), and when I told my sister that I loved that stuff she recommended The Silmarillion for my reading pleasure.

I don't like Harry Potter series, Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars, Titanic, and the Twlight series. These are all movies that were big or are now. That will have a die hard fan base from the years to come big or small.

I don't know why I have been thinking about this film lately, but I have to add Revolutionary Road.

It is actually not a bad film. It is well directed and well acted and a nice period piece. But it's theme and content are so anachronistic and cliche that I am still incredulous that the film makers thought they were making an earnest film about 50's suburban conformity and not a parody of that genre. This film belongs right beside Reefer Madness as a film that might have meant well, but in the end just didn't get it.

I made thru the first one and never bothered with the rest. Boring, boring boring.

Exactly. But nobody who disliked LotR and the Hobbit will enjoy the Silmarillion. Nobody. I don't believe it.

I've got them all: The Unfinished Tales, Lays of Beleriand, Shaping of Middle-Earth, Children of Hurin etc, but it all started with The Hobbit and then LotR. I read the Appendices and wanted more.

Just watched Jurassic Park again, and while I don't hate it, the acting really is quite bad from most of the leads. I think I prefer the sequel overall.

I watched this one about 20 times before I turned 14 or so, then didn't watch it again till I was 30 or so.
Goldfinger just brings Bond with him for half the movie, telling him pretty much everything and letting him do most everything he wants and just hints at disposing of him later.

Not sure if this is popular around these parts but Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny is a cult favorite around my group of friends. But I cannot stand Jack Black and I don't like the movie but I have to stay silent becuase I'm always overruled like 12-1.
