Films that sucked, but everyone else liked...

^ Not that I'm much of a Harry Potter fan but I have to ask; if you hated the first HP movie, what possessed you to watch all the others? Generally when I dislike a film I don't usually bother with the sequels, never mind five of them!

Well, I know this wasn't directed to me, but I don't care for the HP series (books or films). I tried to watch the first film, but it just wasn't working for me.

However, I did see 'Prisoner of Askaban' (and that was only because I was hanging out with a cutie...which somehow made the movie a bit more interesting....)

I have to say, I really like some people giving their varied opinions on various movies. It's interesting.

Gone with the Wind....The Dark Knight...Both thought of as 'bad'...?

Ah, one I want to add:

*Jurassic Park series

Doesn't do it for me.

As for Twilight...if the people saying it's good are, for instance, teenage girls...well gee, that was the target audience after all...what were you expecting? I have neither read the books nor seen the movies, but if the synopses on Wikipedia are any indication, I can see how if I -was- a member of the target audience I might find the franchise appealling.

Yeah, but I wouldn't see something if it isn't dumbed down.

I'm a 34 year old male; I wouldn't mind seeing the films or reading the books. However, I would like something that doesn't willingly insult my intelligence.

That the reason I like The Incredibles (and I think Pixar movies are pretty good) is that they have stuff for kids as well as adults. They don't dumb down stuff, or talk down to kids and insult the adults who watch the films.

this may get me crucified but the Star Wars movies. I really though all of them were pretty bad. i did start off with the second 3 as we have to preview the prints as a manager at the theatre i worked at. then the 70/80s were even worse.
Avatar is over rated. Twilight is raping the vampire myth. Spiderman 1 was eh.

I never got into any of the Harry Potter stuff, the obsessive hype and following it had...(says the Star Trek fan) kind of turned me away, but what sealed the deal was the fact that I ended up at one of them...and fell asleep. Which is odd, considering Gary Oldman was in it...

The only HP film I didn't like was Prisoner of Azkaban. It's silly if you haven't read the book, and if you have, it's nothing like the book.

I don't mind it if book adaptations differ from the original, even if it's a great deal (The Two Towers, e.g.), but the film has to make sense, and PoA left much to desire.

We have to rename the movie the grumpy thread :p

my pick is BLADERUNNER because its not smart its just boring.

300. I giggled the whole time. It's a bloody miracle nobody tossed me out of the cinema at the time. But I could NOT help it. Found it so stupid that it was funny...

I think to be fair, 300 did have a sense of it's own silliness and didn't take itself nearly as seriously as some people seem to think. One of the hardest things to "get" about Frank Miller's work is that it's meant to be overblown and borderline farcical...at least that's the excuse I give myself for enjoying it. ;)

I think "Old School "and "Anchorman " are two movies everyone seemed to like, but I didn't think either one were all that funny. They had funny parts, but as a whole not that funny.

Given the plethora of OTT violence in Sin City, I'm inclined to agree. How could anyone regard that as anything other than intentional?

I always seemed to be the only person whenever a conversation came up that dislike Moulin Rouge.

I've tried to watch and sit through it a number of times and I just don't like the movie at all.

Whimsy isn't for everyone.
