Feline Follies

I think the harnesses are designed specifically to not choke them; we used them on our dogs. The stress is evenly distributed at the shoulders and still deters them from running off if the fit is snug but not too tight.

Has anyone been able to leash train a cat? Go for walks and the whole bit? How did you do it? Can a grown cat be trained to walk on a leash??
Savannah cats are easily leash-trained. But then, a Savannah isn't exactly your typical cat.

I am feeling a bit down. Trying to get my cat to lose a few pounds. Have her on a good diet food from the vet. But can't get her under 11 pounds. She is 11 years old. Anyone else have this problem with cat weight gain? I do get her to play as much as she will. Not sure what else to do??

Is 11 pounds that much? We had a shop cat that topped out at 25 in his prime, and he wasn't fat at all.

My girl cat never got over 7 or 8 pounds and my male has dropped some weight due to age and other issues, but still around 10 pounds.

The kitty in question was 10 pounds when we got her three years ago. After the first year she was up to 15, mainly due to overfeeding. We changed her diet drastically and she's been working her way down for the last two years. But Mrs. Silvercrest is keeping a close eye to make sure everything stays OK. This is the first time the vet has weighed her and not registered a loss. We need to see what's up.

^ it depends on their breed, length, general skeleton size and age. Junior weighs 21lbs but the vet says he needs to 18-20. So he's a little tubby.

How can you tell with that fur? Sisko was a short hair, but long and solid. When he was 6 months old, he had "flaps" of skin between his legs and body he would eventually grow into (think flying squirrel), plus massive paws.
