I don't think cats care in the same way we do, but they do have a kind of order they want in their domain. So they care but they don't care?
I know all of our cats would / will be right with my wife if she's not feeling well or is upset, such as the anniversary of when her mom or dad passed away.
I was sick for a week this winter and the baby of our trio spent entire days on the bed keeping watch. She never sits still for anything. They all greet us in the morning (they’re not allowed in the room at night because they jostle for bed space all night - no sleep to be had then lol) and as soon as we get home from work. They’re extremely what I used to consider dog-like.

At this point, he was down to less than 12 lbs and chewing on his leg. It still hurts more than 5 days after...
Our Luna is part Snowshoe. She’s only 12lb but is the largest of our three. She’s the only one who catches mice though. The 8lb Siamese is too distractible and our Persian is too old to be arsed. Lina looks large and slow but when she goes SHE GOES. ( with her orange bear which she’s had since she was a kitten)
