Feelings Halfway Through The Series

As for every villain is white, clearly they haven't watched Demons of the Punjab, and I wouldn't call Tim Shaw white!
Tim Shaw is played by a white actor. Regardless, The Witchfinders actually had a female villain, though she was still white.

There was more than one Facebook critic who repeatedly stated that the BBC was trying to eliminate white males from all of their shows. They actually called it ‘white male genocide’.

I think the BBC, As far as Doctor Who is concerned, is doing a poor job of their ‘WMG’ as the most popular character in the current series seems to be an older, white male. Also the plot of the first episode was to save a young white male.

It is sad that just putting more people of colour, and more women on TV and in movies is seen as ‘white male genocide’ when most of the prominent roles on film are still going to white males. I cannot wait until the first black James Bond is announced to see the reaction to that.

Considering how the Internet was nearly burned to the ground when James Bond went blond, it will truly be end of days for those people when the first black James Bond is announced.

Unfortunately, it probably won't be Idris, unless he's been bullshitting us.

Some "podcast" is spreading this "no one on the season has written Sci-Fi or knows about Doctor Who" nonsense and it is being picked up by folks who should know better. I was most disappointed to see one of the couple who runs WhoNA (an American Who-and-Who-related retailer) posting the same thing - word for word - on their forums below the episodes. It's not just the wrong barometer for the series. It's also factually incorrect.

Yeah clearly Chibnall who's written Torchwood and for both Tennant and Smith eras of Who knows nothing of Sci-fi/Who.

And you know who had never written science-fiction before he wrote his first Doctor Who script? Russell T Davies, who these people DEMAND must return.

As to the SJW and white man villain claims, how odd that this only comes up with Jodi when last series Capaldi punched a racist in the face!

The worst is those who claim that the show should be turned over to true Doctor Who fans to run it. I'm sorry, the last people I want to run the show would be some of these "true" fans. Their first series would have looms, the Celestial Toymaker, the meddling monk, Omega, Romana, The Rani and 90% of viewers who haven't a clue who the hell these people are.

Besides, which fans are the "true" ones? The ones who complain at every single appearance of the Daleks or Cyberman claiming they're overused, or the ones who complain that this series isn't really Doctor Who as it doesn't have Daleks or Cybermen? Those who loved Simm's Master and hated Missy, or those who hated Simm's Master but loved Missy? Or maybe the fans who think for some reason they'll be able to get Tennant to come back to the role?

They didn't complain because they don't think they are racist or sexist. But, give the Doctor some breasts and the BBC is suddenly trying to eliminate White Males.

As a white male, I feel this genocide of the White Male can't come soon enough.

I liked that Demons was nuanced, but really if you can show me any historical sources that indicate the British decisions over how the partition would be managed and where the lines would be drawn were well thought out I'd be happy to see them. None of which remotely excuses the ethnic cleansing that went on afterwards and that was the think I thought the episode handled really well, it blamed everyone to a greater or lesser extent.

Nuance isn't so much about saying both sides have valid points in all situations. It's about showing the humanity of people on both sides and how even bad people aren't cartoon characters but real life human beings with as much depth as anyone else. Granted sometimes you have a issue were you can see valid points and you can sometimes show how good people get corrupted or even find the humor in things that are very serious but if you look at how absurd something is it is kind of funny in a "I know I shouldn't laugh but still do" kind of way. I'm not so sure if "Demons" is nuanced but that wasn't the issue. It was kind of nothing. It felt flat and boring and none of characters really had much personality IMO. I think it was informative in that for someone like me I sort of learned something new about something in history but as a fictional story it kind of fails for me.

While I'd love to see a black James Bond, I shudder at the thought of Idris Elba in the role. I imagine he'd just be another dour, joyless thug in the mold of Daniel Craig. I'd like to see some suaveness come back to the role. Hell, I think Brosnan could still pull it off now.

While I think that the Daleks are overused, or at least misused, I think there's still quite a bit of life left in the Cybermen. But more than that, there's a great wealth of other established monsters that could make a return appearance. It's been a decade since the last proper Sontaran story. And if you want to show nuance & shades of gray, what about the Draconians? They weren't evil. They were just from another culture that had an empire that rivaled Earth's influence.

.

I kind of agree. If you want Elba to play a iconic character I am thinking Batman. I know who I think would make a perfect Bond and that is James McAvoy.

McAvoy as Bond? Can't see it myself.

I like that you go back to a more smaller and maybe more refined Bond instead of the more brutish version we have seen lately though I have liked what Daniel Craig has done. I like the idea of Bond being less of a soldier and more sneeky and someone who kills from a distance.

My suggestion to this has been: do a Modern Bond set in today's world and a Classic always-the-60s Bond movie alternating every 2-3 years.

I desperately want a 60s-era Bond with Tom Hiddleston.

I don't love Elba for Bond. He's sort of... too big and brawny. Not that he's not sauve or anything. I like Chiwetel Ejiofor for it.

That sounds like a great idea. I also like Chiwetel Ejofor as a possible Bond as well. Hiddleston is also a good idea though maybe this is where I would put my McAvoy choice in over him though. I also wonder why they have never done a spin-off movie. I know they were talking about doing one with Halle Berry playing her character but that never worked out. Plus have they never considered doing a Bond movie were Bond is old and you get a previous Bond in the M role. Maybe they could get Sean Connery out of retirement for it. Or a Q spin-off.

Ejiofor for the win.
I think he did an audiobook as Bond.

Hiddleston's too posh IMO. Truth is Elba's too old now anyway, I could see Ejiofor in the role but my preference would be for Cavill or Aidan Turner as the next Bond, with John Boyega as the one after when he's aged up a bit!

Ugh, no to both Cavill and Turner but I would love to see Ejiofor as Bond. I think he would make a good Doctor, too.
