Feelings Halfway Through The Series

It’s not likely the ku klux klan or Illinois Nazis or what have you are book who fans, but even if they were, they aren’t gonna watch Rosa, and aren’t gonna get it. That’s what allegory is for.

The term you're searching for is preaching to the converted.

I didn't know the Illinois nazis were known outside the Prairie State. I used to work at Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington, and every year on the birthday of their leader, they would come and leave a wreath on the hospital grounds (I think he was born there). It didn't stay there long.

Oh yeah. The I.N.s are actually real, too, sad to say.

To be honest, whilst accepting The Blues Brothers isn’t entirely a documentary, I think I already knew they were. They’re probably the second most famous Nazis in existence just because of that film.

Hey! I used to live in Bloomington! Small world.

Yeah, I went to ISU there and stayed. And every time you say you lived in Normal either people don't believe you or they make jokes at your expense. (I own a Hardly Normal tshirt)

I like the Doctor and the Companions are fine but I fine myself kind of bored during many of the episodes. The writing is just not up to the standards it has been the past. Yet it's not the worst thing on tv and I would take it over CSI and shows like that.
It looks kind of bad though when you have another time travel series on tv in "Legends of Tomorrow" that sort of feels like that is how a new "Doctor Who" show could look like including a new version were we have the first female Doctor. I love "Legends of Tomorrow" and look forward to it ever week. Right now I am watching "Doctor Who" out of habit and because i'm not one to cut bait on a show or franchise so fast if I think it's going through a bad patch.

Should we ignore the fact that in the 50s a black person couldn't sit next to a white person on the bus? Should we ignore the fact that the British carved India in half and this led to incredible bloodshed?

Even "Demons in the Punjab" is a bit more nuanced than that, when its implied that its the homegrown Hindu and Muslim zealots stoking up mob rule and ethnic cleansing, while the British garrisons (fundamentally dependent on the arms and training of Yasmin's grandfather, and his murderers) had to pull out when the loyalty of the co-opted Indian bureaucracy and soldiery was no longer sustainable.

What else could've happened? Put off Partition and there'd be no "safety valve" like West and East Pakistan, so the inter ethnic and inter caste fighting possibly escalates into decades of Indian civil war? Maintain British rule through Weapons of Mass Destruction (nerve gasing hill rebels, threatening to nuke cities, etc), Stalin/Mao famines, and industrialized killings on a Hitlertarian scale?!

While I'm not watching Doctor Who out of habit, I agree that Legends of Tomorrow is a lot better show and a lot more fun. It's ridiculously good and every character gets their chance to shine. Not to mention any pairing off of specific characters works ass well. It's a show I look forward to watching every week.

To me, the writing is just not up to par this season (not like the Moffat years were any better). I like The Doctor and the companions very much. I understand wanting a fresh start but if you're going to do that, make sure you have better villains and monsters. The villains and monsters have been very disappointing this season, the show is LOADED with long and boring exposition, The Doctor can't even take a shit without first using the sonic screwdriver and it seems like the writers have The Doctor address her companions as a whole instead of developing any one-on-one moments between her and a specific companion.

In my mind, three episodes have been above average (Demons of the Punjab, Rose and The Woman Who Fell to Earth), one has been average (The Ghost Monument) and the rest have been bellow average. There's still a chance to finish strong and I have hopes for the next two episodes. But right now, I find myself looking forward to what they might do differently in a second season for the 13th Doctor. Providing those rumors aren't true.

I liked that Demons was nuanced, but really if you can show me any historical sources that indicate the British decisions over how the partition would be managed and where the lines would be drawn were well thought out I'd be happy to see them. None of which remotely excuses the ethnic cleansing that went on afterwards and that was the think I thought the episode handled really well, it blamed everyone to a greater or lesser extent.

I am, the term 'eskimo' is outdated and offensive. The Inuit people have various groups and that term is now the only one accepted to encompase them.

Bullshit! Since when?? I have never in my 5 decades of life on this planet heard that Eskimo is racist! What the hell is wrong with that name? People see racism in everything these days. Fuck, even looking or not-looking at someone is now racist according to the SJW
