Hi all. This has been posted elsewhere, but I thought I'd show it off around these here parts.

For the young'uns around here this is the famous Federation class dreadnought by Franz Joseph. First presented in the Star Fleet Technical Manual. Never seen on screen as other than a drawing (a lot of the TM stuff found its way into background displays) but the dreadnought Entente, NCC-2120 was called at the beginning of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Never say never, but it doesn't seem likely. Certainly not in the near future. For now I'm concentrating on finishing the rest of the Tech Manual ships. If I decide to do TMP era ships I'll most likely start with the Belknap or finish my Ingram class.

Has there been a refit version that didn't use the normal looking saucer, but rather the FJ "two bottoms" ?

I can't say that I remember one. Stargazer itself could be said to be an example--no wait--that was two tops...um Subodean has a nice super-thick saucer refit--it keeps the forward secondary hull shuttlebay (ugh--not on the refit please) And has a saucer edge thick enough to have a travel pos dock under the side main gangway doors, which does look nice.

Now one trick to using super-thick saucer hulls might be to have the gangway hatch in the very bow--and use it as a hyphen betwenn the NCC letters and the contract number--as in
NCC [Gangway hatch] 17XX or something.

If a dockport were under it, I could see something being ejected from it in the path of the ship--so there are story-telling opportunities.
