As a Bears fan, all I can say is thank goodness!

I am little surprised, though. If he had chosen to retire at the end of the 2006 season, his very last game would have been a win over the Bears at Soldier Field and it would have been a high point. I think all of us watching that game felt it would be Farve's last.

Yes, he had a great season in 2007, but now his last game is a loss in the NFC Championship game, which is a bit of a downer.

I'm glad he's gone out on his own terms. He had a great career and it was fun to watch him play. At least now we know he won't hold the team hostage, even though they have a QB now. Hopefully Rogers (Another Jeff Tedford prospect) doesn't do too badly as starter.

Didn't Kyle Boller have some decent numbers with the Ravens. He's the only other Cal QB I could think of who hasn't sucked.

Let's see ... Boller's career numbers: 45-44 TD-INT ratio, 7,846 passing yards over 53 games (an average of 148 per game), and a QB Rating of 71.9.

That's pretty unimpressive.

We won't speak of Dilfer, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, A.J. Feeley and Billy Volek.

Kyle Boller has been pretty much a failure in Baltimore. I wouldn't call him successful at all. He's a mediocre back-up prone to explosive bouts of awfulness as a starter. He's had several chances to prove himself there.

I can't find a Tedford-coached QB who has had anything more than a mediocre-at-best NFL career. Aaron Rodgers may turn out ok, but Tedford's guru-ness is definitely questionable to me.

Favre was a great QB, but man...I had to shut off all the sports talk today, as it was just endless recaps of Favre's career. The same recaps we've had a few times during the season and in the offseasons the last few years. Sometimes it can be great to have so much sports info available, but other times it's just way too much.

As a Packers fan, I'm sad to see him go as I thought he still had a year or two left in him, but I guess it's better to leave a year too early than a year too late.

As a Golden Eagles fan, I'm wondering if Richard Giannini (our AD) is already burning up the phone lines to get him to make a personal appearance this fall to help boost attendance.

Well, Boller was the first one that came to mind, but I did have an emphasis on Tedford-QB prospects. They have all more or less sucked. You mentioned Billy Volek, but didn't he lead the Chargers to beat the Colts at the end of that playoff game? I know he didn't play for Cal, but I'm not sure if you can really put Billy Volek in the list of unproven/bad Quarterbacks.

Volek's not bad, but he's not great either. He's a very serviceable backup. Not a horrible thing to be at all. Wish I was one.

That was the entire point of the end of my post. Each quarterback I listed was a Tedford student. (Tedford's coached at more than California, you know. )

He's 31 and so far hasn't shown enough for anyone to give him a starting job, and his behavior in Tennessee was enough to make Jeff Fisher, one of the most well-behaved coaches in the NFL, speak of him with nothing but venom. I'd call him unproven at best.

That's what I'm taking from all the coverage, too. I'd enjoy it more if it wasn't on every sports channel over and over and over. Mike and Mike pretty much did all of Wednesday's show about it and after FF through three segments that were all Favre, I gave up and deleted it.

There are still a number of media members that think he'll be coming back when the season gets closer. I don't think so, but it wouldn't surprise me.

As for Rodgers, if he can stay healthy, I think he might be ok. The question is if he can stay healthy.

I kind of feel bad for Warren Sapp: The poor guy made the mistake of announcing his retirement on the same day as Favre, and he got lost in all of the media hype.
