I don't recall the exact title, but there is a song about Christmas in Hawaii. I have liked it because of its subversive vibe.
Agreed on Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime. I can't stand that song. Best: (tie) Send me an Angel -- The Scorpions and Christmas Eve in Sarajevo -- Trans-Siberian Orchestra Both of those songs just take my breath away.
I suppose it's a bit subversive if you picture Cousin Eddie on the diving board with his beer while it plays. To me, this is a bit more actually subversive, taking a warm holiday song and turning into something that sounds like a divorced, drunk, dad calling his estranged kids from a dive bar on Christmas eve: [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzZsb33S9Ro[/yt]
Okay, the Nostalgia Critic's "I Fucking Love Christmas" is now my favourite thing ever...Christmas-related, at least. My favourite thing ever is still Agents of Cracked.
Another on my list of more...non-traditional....favorites: [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STXF9PZkjSQ[/yt]
My favourites: * Stille Nacht (Silent Night) - I have to admit that one reason (i.e. the main reason *g*) to go to mass on Christmas is because of the traditional singing of Stille Nacht at the end. Without that - and the more private repetition on the piano at home while the candles on the Christmas tree are lit - there's something missing on Christmas. * Adeste Fideles - When I was a child, I had the opportunity to attend a concert of traditional Christmas carols performed by José Carreras in a nearby church in Vienna. My father taped the concert when it was broadcast on the radio - and this tape (or rather its digitalized version nowadays) still accompanies my decorating the Christmas tree decades later. In particular, I love Carreras' rendition of Stille Nacht and Adeste Fideles. * Hark! The herald angels sing - I first heard that one in a Gospel Concert, and immediately fell in love with it. And the worst? All those songs played over and over again in shopping malls. I especially despise Last Christmas...
Favorite, everything from the Albert Finney musical Scrooge. I can't help singing 'I Hate People' at the first sign of a Christmas display. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU6WXCvNGms[/yt] Worst: Feliz Navida. I deplore that song.
I have new most hated. "Text Me Merry Christmas" [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmhfdQlOiy0[/yt] I like Kristin Bell, but the song verges on parody without actually being humorous. It's just bad and annoying. For actors singing Christmas songs, I much prefer Robert Downey Jr's Don Henleyesque take on Joni Mitchell's River: [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3ETUsWqhbs[/yt]
At least once a year at this time I have to call up this video of Judy Garland's 1963 tv Christmas special with musical direction by Mel Torme, if for no other reason than to hear Mel masterfully croon out harmonies to an acapella Hark The Herald Angels Sing with Jack Jones @ 2:45. The guy has stunning vocal skill. [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otRvg8Rpzc8[/yt]
Not a Christmas song per se (hell, at all) but I love this video mashup nonetheless: [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGnYw-OuCnI[/yt]
