Maple syrup. But it's all too cloyingly sweet to me without strawberries, blueberries, or some fruit on the side to add a little brightness and acidity.

Ketchup or BBQ sauce? Actually, that gives me an idea. What about a savory French toast? Cut back on the sugar, add some herbs to the egg batter. Kind of like savory crepes meets Texas toast.

Powdered sugar (I think in the U.K. it's called castor sugar?) and nothing but powdered sugar. No butter, no syrup, no jam, no honey, no whipped cream...nothing but a medium dusting of powdered sugar.

Try it - it's delicious! Good French toast really doesn't need much enhancement.

I haven't had French toast in so long. I used to have it plain - already rich enough to begin with.

Maple syrup, Vermont Fancy grade. I'm a good New Englander.

I also like powdered sugar, butter, and fruit jams on it. Especially if the jam is a little bit tart.

I make a fried sandwich out of my french toast. Actually, I make a sandwich with sliced bananas, almond butter and honey and I fry up both sides the way you'd make french toast. I just call it a fried almond butter and banana sandwich.

When I did make straight french toast I'd put maple syrup on it.

Powdered sugar and maple syrup. Sometimes I'll mix the eggs with cinnamon, so it cooks in while I'm making it. Generally just syrup, though, because I'm cheap and lazy.

Cinnamon is put in the batter that the pieces of bread are dipped in, then when it's finished cooking, a little butter, some powdered sugar, and some syrup are what I use (sometimes the powdered sugar is skipped).

Maple syrup and a dab of butter is the only thing I put on my french toast. Or pancakes. Or waffles. I was a astounded and mildly horrified when I arrived in the UK and my girlfriend's parents expected me to apply brown sauce to it. I think brown sauce is great on damn near everything, but on french toast it is sheer blasphemy.
