Favourite play-by-play announcers?

Come on! It doesn't get any better than Dave Niehaus Ron Fairly!

DAVE: And the 3-2 pitch to Ichiro is a breaking ball that's... oops, my mistake, I was watching the pitcher in the bullpen warming up.

RON: That's a common mistake that can happen to anyone, Dave.

DAVE: Zito shakes off the sign from the catcher, then steps off the rubber.

RON: With the count 3-2, Zito does not want to throw a ball here. What he really wants to do is throw a strike.

DAVE: Zito with the delivery... fastball fouled off down the right field line by Ichiro. The score is 7-2 Athletics in the sixth inning.

RON: This is the kind of game where the Mariners might need to score eight runs in order to win it.

DAVE: Zito again with the 3-2 delivery to Ichiro... BELTED! DEEP TO CENTER FIELD! And a routine catch by the shortstop just off the dirt.

Bob Cole(Leafs) is the most Biased one out there like he went to the Danny Galivan(Habs) school of 'Homers'
The guys doing the Panthers' games are probably worse. Granted, I've only heard them in game highlights on the NHL Network or on the NHL website, but they're horrible. They're absurdly biased, and they shout about everything.

Mike Emrick rules

This will never be true of anything, ever.
I like Doc. How many hockey announcers can (or would even want to) name-drop the Pittsburgh Pirates into every broadcast they do? I swear, the guys from FSN Pittsburgh mention the Pirates less than Emrick.

As I mentioned upthread, I don't think you can get worse than the White Sox TV crew. They say "we" and "us" all the time, and one of them actually yelled "Daggumit" (I kid you not) when a Chicago home run missed.

Steve Coates -- the "between the benches" color guy for the Philadelphia Flyers is one of the reasons I can't stand the Flyers (well, there's that, plus I'm a Penguins fan ;)).

Steve Coates is one of those guys who thinks:

- his team (the Flyers) can do no wrong,
- Every fight was caused by the opposing team doing something dirty,
- every penalty by his team is a bad call by the refs and every hit by the other team was a penalty that wasn't called (i.e., the refs always favor the other team.

Jack Brickhouse and Vin Scully, easily. Neil Funk, Pat Foley and Pat Summerall, too.

You named all but one of my faves. Throw in Harry Carey and you've got them all. Even when he butched names, he was hilarious and his enthusiasm contagious.

May Vin Scully live a thousand years. Also a big fan of the great Ernie Harwell.

Vin Scully and Chick Hearn. Since Chick passed Lakers games on the radio just don't have the same magic as before. :(

Another one, since Monday was the 20th anniversary of Major League:

Bob Uecker

Juuussssst a bit outside. :guffaw:

I like Bob Cole's style of calling the game but damn does he have a Leafs bias.

I also like Chris Cuthbert. He always sounds really exited about the game he's watching.

Since I don't live in L.A. any more, I have no idea what the Laker announcers are like. Chick would definitely be an impossible act to follow.

Vin Scully is the best I've ever heard on baseball. I remember my brother doing a temporary assignment in LA during the 80's and he said it was amazing how much less stress there was on the drive home when the Dodgers were on the East Coast. Dodgers+Vin Scully+car radio=equals baseball nirvana! Rick Peckham does a fine job of calling the Tampa Bay Lightning TV games. The best I ever heard doing football on radio was the former Dolphins play by play man Rick Weaver.

My favorite radio duo was Gary Cohen & Howie Rose. My favorite tv color guy is Ron Darling. Broadcaster I hate the most, Keith Hernandez. He is just a babbling fool. I wish Gary would go back to doing radio, but I do like it when its just Gary and Ron in the booth.

Watching Jon Miller and Joe Morgan on Sunday Night Baseball right now. I love those guys. You know its a big game when they are on. They're basically a weekly institution at this point.
