Favourite phaser design?

The 29th century phaser from "Future's End". For one simple reason: The beam it fires actually looked realistic! Most phasers we see, the beam appears to take a visible amount of time to reach its target. Which should not happen, because this is essentially a beam of light, so it should instantly appear between the phaser and the target without appearing to take any TIME to do so. The 29th century phaser is the only one we see in which this actually happens!

I grew up with the TOS design, and as much as I like it, I have to say that I have a slight preference for the TMP phaser. I love smooth, clean and uncluttered design work - so the TMP phaser design is in line with my preferences. My only problem with it is the large "button" (actually I think it is supposed to be a dilithium crystal power cell) on the top - that element does look a little awkward to me.

I have to go with the TSFS/TV/VI phaser design. It's been my favorite Trek phaser since I first saw it.

As for phaser rifles (since they were included in that picture) I would go with the newer ones from First Contant, I just don't like the look of the rest of them.

Blah. I like the Cardassian disruptor better, and the rifle that goes with it. Excellent aesthetics, a grip and general design that actually LOOKS usable as a weapon, and according to dialogue, Cardassian weapons can take a lickin' and keep on tickin' in situations where other species' weapons couldn't take it anymore.

One of those square-nosed rifles from First Contact. It looks easy enough to use, and it makes a great melee weapon to boot. My next choices would probably be the TFF assault phaser, the TNG phaser rifle and the respective Cardassian and Bajoran pistol and rifle designs - which all seem sturdy and easy to wield.

I liked the nuphasers, since they seemed more futuristic, therefor more "Trek" to me. ::shrugs:: though not on there, the TNG phasers always bugged me because they looked so much like a remote.

Yes! They were very versatile devices. They also got all the dust out of the corners and between the cushions.
