Favourite-looking Cybermen.

Well, you see, rather than being similar to humans, the original Mondasians were like the Silurians and had a third eye. Much like how they kept a face as they changed and developed over time, they also kept this third eye as a cultural thing. Then they did the sensible thing and stuck a gun in it.

Then why is there anything up there on the Cybusmen?
Because everyone involved in the design, writing, and concept of the Cybusmen was a complete idiot.

:( Ermmm... no. Going back to The Tenth Planet, it clear that the 'thing' on top of their heads was a light - akin to a miner's helmet-lamp. This is also evident in The Moonbase and The Invasion...

The question is should the Cybermen look 'robotic?' They aren't supposed to be robots, until the new series they've never been so robotic. The new ones look intimidating, but they also look bulky and cumbersome, and probably quite easy to outrun!

I don't mind the Cybus Cybermen because they convince me that they're real machines and not blokes in suits made out of stuff from a garage sale (with the early 1960s Cybermen scary more through being filmed in monochrome and their eerie sound effects). And certain Cybus Cybermen have their human brains displayed through a transparent forehead and the Cybermen seen in "The Pandorica Opens" (likely Cybus/Mondas hybrids) seem more organic and creepy with their writhing neck tendrils (and metal skulls holding human ones  ).

Plus the NuWho Cybermen, despite the essentially rebooted origin story that doesn't please everyone, haven't been overused like the Daleks have.
