Favourite-looking Cybermen.

I had just seen the one with the Cybermats (Revenge is it? It's hard to keep track) right before, so they didn't bug me. Cybermen have dumb support things.

Here's a cool picture of the evolution of the Cybermen:

Whilst I'm still not overly enamoured of the new series look, the Cybusmen have got steadily less annoying and more recognisably Cyber like with the passage of time. The dog things and Cyberking in The Next Doctor were shite but the Cybermen were ok, and I liked the Cyberman clenching his fist in the Big Bang!

Seriously though I don't know why they had to make them so clunky, and the least said about their legs/feet the better. Really the pleated trousers/comfortable shoe look is so bad!

And thankfully 'Delete' seems to have bitten the dust!

Awesome illustration! Interesting how I only like the left side...

For goodness sake the early Cybermen costumes were FUCKING RUBBISH!!! They look like blokes in silver balaclavas and with bits of junk stuck on, not scary at all today! :scream:

The more modern Cybermen costumes from the centre to the right are far more convincing and robotic looking, I like their more pronounced Art Deco theme, with the most recent NuWho Cybusmen ultimately proving to be a solid design. And while they're not the most sinister, human skull falling out of Cybusman's head not withstanding, they look the most intimidating and bulky.

The question is should the Cybermen look 'robotic?' They aren't supposed to be robots, until the new series they've never been so robotic. The new ones look intimidating, but they also look bulky and cumbersome, and probably quite easy to outrun!

I actually love the original Cyber look. Mainly because it showcased the fact that they aren't robots (!!) and are cyborgs...flesh creatures with technology implanted to "enhance" their bodies. Which is why I posted that Photoshop work a page or two back, showing how the originals could be conceived of in this day and age. Not to mention, the originals were spooky as all hell! Silent and deadly, unlike the stomping toys of the Cybus World...

I don't necessarily disagree. However, I would see that as the end-target of their evolution. At that point, the next logical step would begin digital conversion. But, for it to be The Cybermen, as we know them, I would prefer the initial stages, or some varying degree therein. I don't mind them making Cybertoys for the marketing groups that are running things behind the scenes. But, I have never understood why Branding is so limited in its scope. As seen above there are a multitude of Cyber versions. Maybe some we've never seen before. Why not use them all, at once? It's time travel. The Doctor should run into the original Cybermen one year, and the next time, they could be the Cybus versions. Then, the T.Baker-era versions. Then, an entirely new version we've never seen before. And then, so on and etc.

It's been a long time. Have they ever explained what the thing in the forehead does, if anything?
Well, you see, rather than being similar to humans, the original Mondasians were like the Silurians and had a third eye. Much like how they kept a face as they changed and developed over time, they also kept this third eye as a cultural thing. Then they did the sensible thing and stuck a gun in it.

Then why is there anything up there on the Cybusmen?

Though I admit, theirs looks more like a grille than an eye or a weapon.

Because everyone involved in the design, writing, and concept of the Cybusmen was a complete idiot.
