My favorite is the missing one: the Adam West one.

Boston isn't that big and didn't have skyscrapers like that-- still doesn't, although there are a some more now than there were when Superman and Batman were created. In fact, both Metropolis and Gotham are modeled after New York, but just different parts (and different impressions) of the city-- that's why it's the city so big they had to name it twice. Gotham is literally a nickname of New York that goes back a couple of hundred years and New York is pretty much the definition of metropolitan.I was always under the impression Gotham was modeled after Boston and Metropolis modeled after NYC. This with NYC and Boston being real cities in the DCU.

No arguement from me. I always figured Boston for the crime ethnic crime syndicates Batman fights in his city. Italians, Russians, Irish and Americans.Boston isn't that big and didn't have skyscrapers like that-- still doesn't, although there are a some more now than there were when Superman and Batman were created. Yeah. At this point, Metropolis is basically the light, positive, 'city of the world' side of New York and Gotham is basically the dark, scary, 'mean streets and corruption' side of New York.
Although, unless I'm mistaken, I think that dichotomy was mainly introduced by Frank Miller when he went full post-apocalyptic with Batman in TDKR. I don't really know how the two cities compared side by side before that. Certainly, the Adam West series made Gotham feel more or less like any other city. Maybe a bit less 'modern' and more 'old money' than Metropolis.
Memory is tricky, but I seem to remember that being the consensus when I was reading back in the 70s. The names alone would suggest it was always intended to some degree, and maybe just enhanced as time went on.Although, unless I'm mistaken, I think that dichotomy was mainly introduced by Frank Miller when he went full post-apocalyptic with Batman in TDKR. Batman fought the Irish? I'd buy that graphic novel. I'd probably see a lot of people I know.No arguement from me. I always figured Boston for the crime ethnic crime syndicates Batman fights in his city. Italians, Russians, Irish and Americans.
That's pretty much perfect.Denny O'Neil said that (figuratively), "Gotham City is Manhattan below 14th Street at eleven minutes past midnight on the coldest night in November, and Metropolis is Manhattan between 14th and 100th Streets on the brightest, sunniest July day of the year." I can't find any reference to when he said it, but it was probably in the 1980s.
So really close to each other?Denny O'Neil said that (figuratively), "Gotham City is Manhattan below 14th Street at eleven minutes past midnight on the coldest night in November, and Metropolis is Manhattan between 14th and 100th Streets on the brightest, sunniest July day of the year." Because it's akin to asking what everyone's favorite Wolverine film is, and excluding XMO, The Wolverine and Logan from the voting tally. Or asking what everyone's favorite Iron Man movie is and only having Avengers 1-3 and Spider-Man Homecoming for selections. Why is it so hard for people to vote for the OP's choices and only the OP's choices?
The parameters should've been defined in the title. The thread title is "Favoite Live Action Batman Movie". Thereby not limiting the parameters of the discussion to only the 4 films from the 89-97.But just as you said, the other Batman movies are not really obscure, and therefore there's no threat of them being forgotten. The thread starter was pretty clear that this was about the four 80s/90s era movies, so what's so hard to limit the discussion to those four?

While, ideally, yes, that should be the case, "Your Favorite Live Action Batman Movie Out of These Four That I've Seen So Far" doesn't really work as a thread title. The parameters should've been defined in the title. Are you sure? The first 3 X-Men films and the Avengers films have been maligned for disproportionately showcasing Logan and Tony. That's not an equivalent example because those are the ONLY Wolverine films that exist.
A better title would've solved this issue. As well as, decrease the number the clicks to the thread. Here, the OP limited the Batman film choices to only those that she has personally seen; that's not "pretending that they didn't exist"; it's tailoring this discussion to an avenue that she is personally familiar with, and is not an unreasonable thing to have done.
Because this is Trekbbs. Where threads are constantly derailed from the topic. And again, we constantly talk about all the Batman movies (especially the more recent ones) around here, as does the whole internet. So why is it so hard to limit the debate to these four films for the sake of this particular thread?
Batman & Robin is still my favourite because it’s so much fun and I love Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy.
