Love reading these types of list!

My favorites so far:

Christine Vale
Hugh Cambridge
Nanietta Bacco
Jasminder Choudhury
Liam O'Donnell
Elias Vaughn (My absolute fav!)
Thirishar ch'Thane
Ravel Dygan

--Chris

It seriously warms my heart to see Nan Bacco on so many people's lists. :)

Along with a number of other characters you created or developed.

I'm gratified to see three of mine: T'Ryssa, Torvig, and Val Williams. Plus Tev and Choudhury, whom I did not create but did introduce and help define.

I forgot to include Pres. Nan Bacco, and Dr. Hugh Cambridge in my list I posted before.

Bacco just fits in with whatever story she's in. The administration never feels forced in the novels and she always feels like an integral part to the story.

Mackenzie Calhoun
Katerina Mueller
Elizabeth Shelby
Kebron
Soleta

T'Ryssa Chen
Chris Vale

Dulmur
Lucsly

Elias Vaughn
Taran'Atar

Nan Bacco
Espiranza Piniero
Kant Jorel
Sivak
Gul Monor
(And I really loved Ian Andrew Troi in The art of the impossible)

Atish Khatami
Anthony Leone
Bersh Glov Mog
Captain Nassir
Akeylah Karume

David Gold
Domenica Corsi

My favorite is almost certainly Nan Bacco.

Honorable mentions:

- Kant Jorel
- T'Prynn
- Tim Pennington
- Cervantes Quinn
- Rugal Pa'Dar (yes, I know, he was in "Cardassians," but let's face it -- he was such a blank slate that he might as well have been a lit-original character in The Never-Ending Sacrifice)
- Leonard James Akaar (same)
- T'Ryssa Chen
- Thanien
- Min Zife/Koll Azernal

Who's Gul Monor?

From The Art of The Impossible.

A prattling windbag who can't make a speech to save his life (someone revoke this man's Cardassian Card at once!) but who's quite endearing in his way. He claims Raknal V for the Union and serves as the governor of the Cardassian colony.

Monor was basically me thinking, "What would a Cardassian version of Commander McBragg from The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle be like?"

That would explain why I didn't recognize the name. I haven't read TAotI since it first came out, so I don't have very clear memories of it.

I'm not as well-rounded in my trek reading as most everyone else on here seems to be; I have really only read Voyager books. That said, I have to give a shout out to the many new characters that Kirsten Beyer has introduced. I'm generally wary of new "main" characters being introduced for a number of reasons but she has done an amazing job of introducing these characters and incorporating them in with the existing characters and making the reader care about them. And I imagine that's not an easy thing to do.

To answer the question, my favorite new character so far is Captain Regina Farkas. She may not be as complicated or complex of a character as so many of the other new characters, but that's what I like about her. I love how she is portrayed as a genuine person and capable leader. Any time she's in a scene, she just has a sort of reassuring presence about her that seems to leap off the page and really stands out to me. She's the most "real" of the new characters to me and I look forward to seeing more of her.

DS9

Akellen Macet, Ro Laren, Prynn Tenmei (I know, Macet was on TNG, just once and Ro developed a lot during the Relaunch), Asarem Wadeen, Zivan Slaine

Voy
Hugh Cambridge, Clarissa Glenn, Nancy Conlon, Doctor Sharak (and before Jarem Kaz)

TNG
Jasminder Choudhury, President Bacco, Dina Elfiki, Ravel Dygan
Problem is: the main characters occupy center stage, others are killed off or are nondescript

Klingons
B´Oraq, Worf´s aide Giancarlo Wu

Vanguard
T´Prynn (multi-layered, intriguing, not a conventionall Vulcan), Tim Pennington (couldn´t stand him first, but now he´s one of my favorites), Atish Khatami
(I must confess, I have just read the first two Vanguard novels)

New Frontier
Calhoun, Burgoyne 172

Titan
Melora Pazlar (yes, she appeared once in DS9, but there she snubbed people; difficult to like her, but I do)
Zurin Dakal, Christine Vale, Ranul Keru

Romulans
Gell Kamemor

I have to mention Lucsly and Dulmer, despite the fact that they were on-screen, but just once. Same goes for Rugal. Una McCormack told the story of his live quite adorable.

Comment regarding T´Ryssa Chen: I couldn´t stand her from the beginning, but it has changed considerably when the focus shiftet from her flings onboard towards other accomplishments of hers. At least, she is not boring. Killing off likeable/unlikeable characters makes it impossible to see a

Ooh, lists! Some of my favourite lit characters are:

Nanietta Bacco
Teresa Garcia (from DTI)
Faro Dastin (The Ryan Reynolds-a-like Trill from Seekers)
Torvig Bu-Kar-Nguv (Titan)
Corazame (the Tzenkethi from Brinkmanship & The Missing)
Ravel Dygan
Diego Reyes & Rana Desai (Vanguard)
Regina Farkas
Miranda Kadohata
Atish Khatami
Tobin Dax

There are probably others that have slipped my mind, too.

There are so many great lit characters I know I'm going to forget to mention some of them.
I'm a massive fan of New Frontier, and they include some really great characters, Mackenzie, Burgoyne, Soletta, McHenry. I'm so psyched that New Frontier is coming back!
Vanguard is really excellent, and my favorite from there is T'Prynn.
I'm also really fond of Keru, who's been around for a long time in various series before becoming a regular in Titan. Isn't it time he got a new boyfriend? He's been in mourning nearly 20 years in real time.

I like Keru, too. And would be happy for him, if he finds someone. There is obviously no lack of interest, but it hasn´t really clicked yet :rommie:.

Some people spend their whole lives mourning.

Then there's Ro, who - to the best of my knowledge, anyway - has been romantically attached to exactly one person ever: Will Riker, under the effects of amnesia.

But really, I care more about the story than anything else. I don't want to see everyone pair off just for the sake of pairing off.

Yes, some people do grieve for their whole lives. But Keru is arguably the most prominent gay male character in Trek Lit. It can feel a little convenient to keep him single in mourning forever. Is there another prominent male couple in Trek lit? The only one I can think of is Bart from SCE, and while I haven't read the later SCE stories yet, I believe that his relationship ended too, because he didn't want a commitment, and that was maybe a decade ago.

It is a common trope for gay characters to be recently widowed and left grieving so the story doesn't require putting them in an actual relationship. I'm not assigning nefarious motives to anyone, but he still falls into a common trope. I wouldn't mind it so bad if there was another male couple around in the very large Litverse.
