Who are people's favourite lit-only characters (and by that I mean "regular" characters)?

My favourites, roughly by series, would be:

NF
Mackenzie Calhoun
Soleta
Zak Kebron

TNG
Christine Vale
Bacco
T'Ryssa Chen

Titan
Dr Ree
Torvig
Pava
Zurin Dakal

DS9
Vaughan
Taranatar
Trier

Vanguard
T'Prynn
Pennington
Quinn

My all-time favourite treklit character has to be Calhoun, though.

A few I'm particularly fond of:

T'Ryssa Chen
Jasminder Choudhury
Nanietta Bacco
Liam O'Donnell
P8 Blue (what's she up to now? We know what a few of the da Vinci crew are doing, but what about Pattie?)
Soleta
Taran'atar
Mor glasch Tev
Thirishar ch'Thane
Torvig Bu-kar-nguv
Treir
Elias Vaughn

Tev (SCE)
Pre-Molt Kebron (NF)
Calhoun (NF)
Leskit (Gorkon)
Leslie Parrish (Errand)

My favorites are, in no particular (other than how they popped into my head):
Elias Vaughn
Dr. Shenti Yisec Eres See
Jasminder Choudhury
T'Ryssa Chen
Taran'atar
Thirishar Ch'Thane
Jetanien
Dr. Ezekiel Fisher
Tim Pennington
Cervantes Quinn
Christine Vale
Prynn Tenmei

Let's make a top 10, in no particular order. I've tried to pick some from different series, though I think I can see a pattern to the creating (or at least introducing) authors...

  1. Domenica Corsi (SCE)
  2. P8 Blue (SCE)
  3. Christine Vale (TNG/TTN)
  4. Nanietta Bacco (various)
  5. Thirishar ch'Thane (DS9)
  6. Elias Vaughn (DS9)
  7. Wol (GKN)
  8. Giancarlo Wu (GKN)
  9. Afsarah Eden (VGR)
  10. Shucorion (NWE)

Without a doubt: Charvanek!!!

(Okay, she's technically not a "lit" character, but my best memories of her are from a novel - Vulcan's Heart, probably my favorite Trek novel of all time. So that qualifies, IMHO. :) )

If we're talking strictly literary characters: I'd have to say Ruanek.

Again, I'm going with his appearances in Vulcan's Heart. Ruanek is one of the coolest characters I've ever read about in Trek. I would have LOVED to see what could be done with that character onscreen. And of course I'm thinking of Vaughn Armstrong (my favorite actor)...just because. :techman:

Aw, shucks, although I did not create Christine Vale, Dean Wesley Smith did, and he's the one who came up with the notion that she had history with Corsi. I'm the one who came up with that story, and Bob Greenberger was the one who put her into Doors Into Chaos which kind of cemented her as the post-Dominion War Enterprise security chief.

Having said that, I totally created Corsi, Bacco, Wol, and Wu. P8 Blue was a joint creation of me and John Ordover.

Vaughn - especially in the lost era-books
Calhoun - at least in the books up to Restoration and in Stone and Anvil - when NF became more of a caricature of itself, so did Calhoun unfortunately
Shucorion - loved him in New Earth, and I would have loved to read more.

some of my favorites include:
-Thanien (Aranthanien ch'Revash)
-Valeria Williams
-Diego Reyes
-Ming Xiong
-T'Prynn
-Tim Pennington
-Elias Vaughan
-Afsarah Eden
...and Nanietta Bacco
..AND Hugh Cambridge!

Great original characters. Especially loved the original Vanguard characters and Christopher's new Enterprise era characters. They felt more 'real' than half the tv characters from the various series..

I've got too many. I'll need time to narrow it down to just 10 or fewer.

I'm surprised that T'Ryssa Chen is on several of these posts. I like her in TNG, but I thought tons of people hated her?

I've found that, generally, anything that is intensely loved by some people will be intensely hated by others, and vice-versa. They're two sides of the same coin. After all, people are different from one another, with wildly different tastes and values and preferences. So if you evoke strong reactions in people, some of those reactions will be stongly positive and others strongly negative. That's inevitable. The only way to offend no one is to delight no one, to be so bland as to evoke no strong feelings of any kind.

T'Ryssa throws her personality in your face (often quite deliberately). If you like that personality - as I do - she'll be a lot of fun. If you dislike it, she'll no doubt make you grit your teeth. After all, the character wants to get a reaction out of people, its the intent behind at least half of the things she does (or fails to do) - "I'm not going to be Vulcan stoic, so there" - so even if a reader hates her, she's more or less succeeded...

I know I am going to forget people, but:

- Ravel Dygan
- Taran'atar
- Ranul Keru
- Torvig
- Entire crew of Even Odds
- Bacco
- Dr. Ree

It seriously warms my heart to see Nan Bacco on so many people's lists. :)

Somewhere, I suspect my great-grandmother's happy, too.....
