Favourite Class of Ship

A painting of the Declaration Class hangs on my wall to this day, so that's right up there.
It would be a cool design for another show but I don't like how it doesn't fit in with other designs. I assume it's supposed to look like a human build of the Vulcan design but that doesn't work for me

And the shoving in of 2 new Enterprise ships just bugged me

Vulcan ships (ENT) were conceptualized long after the ringship (TMP). I like it a lot because it fits in the way the space shuttle does — very different one-off craft. The massive coils work for me as the first of their early new technology.

TMP ? That ship is first seem in ENT no

"Starship" is a TYPE, not a class.

A true "Starship class" would require the existence of a USS Starship, and we can be fairly sure that's not the case.

"Starship" is what KIND of a ship it is, not its class name. "Class" simply refers to the first ship of that kind to be built.

And I really could give a damn what the dedication plaque says. My position stands. The Enterprise, in TOS, is Constitution CLASS (and that's been pointed out in dialogue, which supersedes any dedication plaque), but Starship TYPE. That's the bottom line.

Well you're partially right at least, like lots of things from early TOS, terms were not set, and it was indeed meant to be "Starship Class", as these were thought of as the only ones of their kind, something extraordinary.

Of course, that changed quickly it indeed became a description of type.

RAMA
Retconsitution class:p

Has to be:
1. Galaxy (because it is a beautiful, graceful design)
2. Constitution (it is the standard by which all other ships are judged)
3. Defiant (I just like its 'turtle-shaped' quirkiness)
4. Oberth (the overall simplicity of shape and the fact that it is an unassuming, work-a-day, spacecraft)
5. Universe (NCC-1701-J - because it looks like it travels between galaxies!!)

Perhaps not the most exotic list but it is mine. Am not a huge fan of the Klingon/Romulan fixation on 'winged' craft.

Could have been a warp ship based on Vulcan tech though unless the drawing had a blurb under it saying otherwise

There's no blurb. The Ringship was created for another Roddenberry show in the 1970s that never made it to pilot. The picture was used in TMP to represent a previous starship Enterprise, per dialogue.

In Enterprise, they remembered the ringship and used its picture in the background among other old ships. It's highly likely that the Vulcan ringships introduced in Enterprise were based on the ringship Enterprise, and this has led many to theorize a connection with Vulcan warp tech (although Vulcan ships in TNG, First Contact, and TMP even didn't display ringship technology).

1. TOS Constitution (best by far)
2. Ambassador (on screen)
3. Refit Constitution (probably prefer this to Ambassador, but the lack of lighting on the nacelles makes it look too static.)

In general, I like round saucers, not ovals, and I prefer taller to squished. I also don’t go for lots of greebling, and I like a light, bright hull. So basically my tastes run contrary to most of the design trends since the TOS movies.

No. It was not, and in the 79 episodes of TOS there's zero reference to what you're claiming. A true STARSHIP CLASS vessel is what the Enterprise was in TOS, the plaque on the bridge speaks for itself.

Not always. There was a Tribal class of Royal Navy destroyers, but no HMS Tribal. A County class of cruisers but no HMS County. A Flower class of corvettes but no HMS Flower. A River class of frigates but no HMS River. And so on.

Three-way tie between the Constitution class (TOS version), Galaxy class, and Defiant class.

The Defiant bridge is my favorite bridge set though.
