One of my favorite Youtubers is Rick Beato, musician extraordinaire. He is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, teacher, producer, engineer, musicologist.

He has an ongoing series called “What Makes This song Great,” in which he picks a song and breaks it down to show how it was put together and what is appealing about it. He has other series’ like Top 20 drum breaks, guitar intros.

Granted, these are pretty music nerd topics, but that is what makes his channel so great.

Postmodern Jukebox for some clever covers. What I really like about them is that they don't simply play a straight same-sounding cover, but rather they deconstruct a song and often play the song in an entirely different genre, which has IMHO created some amazing renditions. Here are some of my favourites.

Doo-wop 'We Can't Stop':

I believe the first I'd heard of them was the All ABout The Bass cover. They do some very good tracks.

redlettermedia for their Half in the Bag movie reviews and Mr. Plinkett reviews

cinemassacre for the Angry Video Game Nerd

whatculture.com for their top ten lists for movies, video games, TV shows and Star Trek

cinemasins for their movie sin videos

Heck yea. I get a kick out of his videos :).

Dan Murrell, his former co-workers at Screen Junkies/Fandom, I also follow the Movie Trivia Schmoedown (though only the matches, I've not the time to spare to also watch the Rundown, Backstage, or what have you), and pretty much any video Kevin Smith is releasing. Oh, and Simon's Cat.

For politics and news, I get a lot not from YouTube, but I supplement with Kyle Kulinski, Jimmy Dore, David Doel, Mike Figueredo, and I'm starting to watch a lot of the Rising clips from The Hill featuring Krystal Ball and Saagar Entjeti. For Germany, I watch the weekly 4-5 hour podcast "Aufwachen" with Tilo Jung and Stefan Schulz. Others I watch less regular.

He reminds me a lot about Randy Bachman (of BTO fame) and what he does on his own radio show, Vinyl Tap, which is also in a podcast format. He did a fascinating episode years ago where he pointed out the different types of guitars and compared their sound and which famous songs they were used in.

Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers usually has some good stuff on his channel. There's also a chinese fellow (whose name I don't recall) who has a channel devoted to Star Wars which I watch occasionally.

I'm a big fan of Jay Leno's Garage. I never found Leno particularly entertaining as a comedian or talk show host, but he's quite affable and engaging in car-guy mode. The man clearly loves cars and does his homework -- he knows all the history and technical stuff.

I like Natalie Tran (aka "communitychannel") but she stopped making videos a few years ago. I guess when you do a new video roughly every two weeks for 10 years, at some point you're going to run out of ideas. Besides, Nat is well past 30 by now. Maybe she actually has a life!

Anyway, my latest internet sweetheart is the amazingly talented drummer Sina Doering. She does covers of the drum parts of classic rock songs and original music as well.

And I'll watch anything on YouTube that has cute cats in it. Hell, YouTube was made for cute cat videos.

Yeah, his channel is one of my favourites. I just love admiring whatever he has or can show off via his friends. I actually attended a live taping of the Tonight Show in 2013 and got to shake his hand. But one of the cooler things was knowing he'd arrive to work in a random car of his choosing. So as we waited in line to enter the studio, while we didn't actually see him with his car, we knew he'd arrived by the the sound of the car.

I like seeing creative people at work, so my favorite channels tend to be things along those lines. Adam Savage's Tested is good with lots of DIY projects as well as gadget reviews.

I also watch quite a number of painters, even though I have no painting skills, I just enjoy seeing them at work. It's quite relaxing.

I love this topic :)

Company Man, entertaining and informative analyses of the rise and falls of very different kinds of businesses.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQMyhrt92_8XM0KgZH6VnRg

Cinemassacre, specifically James/James and Mike, pretty entertaining even reviews and plays of movies and games even without me having played a lot of video games. They occasionally are annoying in getting angry when games aren't super-intuitive or otherwise super-easy, but still generally pretty fun, they definitely have fun. And James is even better when he's not angry, when he's reviewing movies & TV shows that he likes or is truly middle-of-the-road about.

Joe Rogan show clips, refreshingly independent and outside-the-box (though he sometimes maybe panders) even when I don't agree.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnxGkOGNMqQEUMvroOWps6Q

Gordon Ramsay show clips (Kitchen Nightmare, Hotel Hell, to a lesser extent Hell's Kitchen) usually great for a laugh including rewatching.

Daym Drops, fun food reviews also can be rewatched a lot.

I agree it's a great topic :techman:. I have a cache of long-standing subs - mostly film, TV, filmmaking, music, news related. But I'm always on the lookout for something new I might not otherwise stumble across :D

I'm a fan of stand up comedy, & I've gotten into a channel with lesser known comics called Dry Bar Comedy, which posts segments & whole 30-40 minute sets. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvlVuntLjdURVD3b3Hx7kxw

Watching Postmodern Jukebox ended up getting me into another band called Scary Pockets. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-2JUs_G21BrJ0efehwGkUw
It's a 2nd project for the main guy, who also has Pomplamoose. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSiPjfAJBgbFlIUsxOWpK0w

I also subbed a guy named Bill McClintock , who makes some of the best damn music mashup videos I've ever seen. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6C3PX8hLzueaPWW9nmT85w/videos
