One of my favorite Youtubers is Rick Beato, musician extraordinaire. He is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, teacher, producer, engineer, musicologist.

He has an ongoing series called “What Makes This song Great,” in which he picks a song and breaks it down to show how it was put together and what is appealing about it. He has other series’ like Top 20 drum breaks, guitar intros.

Granted, these are pretty music nerd topics, but that is what makes his channel so great.

Dan Murrell, his former co-workers at Screen Junkies/Fandom, I also follow the Movie Trivia Schmoedown (though only the matches, I've not the time to spare to also watch the Rundown, Backstage, or what have you), and pretty much any video Kevin Smith is releasing. Oh, and Simon's Cat.

For politics and news, I get a lot not from YouTube, but I supplement with Kyle Kulinski, Jimmy Dore, David Doel, Mike Figueredo, and I'm starting to watch a lot of the Rising clips from The Hill featuring Krystal Ball and Saagar Entjeti. For Germany, I watch the weekly 4-5 hour podcast "Aufwachen" with Tilo Jung and Stefan Schulz. Others I watch less regular.

One of my favorite Youtubers is Rick Beato, musician extraordinaire. He is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, teacher, producer, engineer, musicologist.

He reminds me a lot about Randy Bachman (of BTO fame) and what he does on his own radio show, Vinyl Tap, which is also in a podcast format. He did a fascinating episode years ago where he pointed out the different types of guitars and compared their sound and which famous songs they were used in.

Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers usually has some good stuff on his channel. There's also a chinese fellow (whose name I don't recall) who has a channel devoted to Star Wars which I watch occasionally.

I like Natalie Tran (aka "communitychannel") but she stopped making videos a few years ago. I guess when you do a new video roughly every two weeks for 10 years, at some point you're going to run out of ideas. Besides, Nat is well past 30 by now. Maybe she actually has a life!

I'm a big fan of Jay Leno's Garage. I never found Leno particularly entertaining as a comedian or talk show host, but he's quite affable and enaging in car-guy mode. The man clearly loves cars and does his homework -- he knows all the history and technical stuff.

Yeah, his channel is one of my favourites. I just love admiring whatever he has or can show off via his friends. I actually attended a live taping of the Tonight Show in 2013 and got to shake his hand. But one of the cooler things was knowing he'd arrive to work in a random car of his choosing. So as we waited in line to enter the studio, while we didn't actually see him with his car, we knew he'd arrived by the the sound of the car.

I like seeing creative people at work, so my favorite channels tend to be things along those lines. Adam Savage's Tested is good with lots of DIY projects as well as gadget reviews.

Cinemassacre, specifically James/James and Mike, pretty entertaining even reviews and plays of movies and games even without me having played a lot of video games. They occasionally are annoying in getting angry when games aren't super-intuitive or otherwise super-easy, but still generally pretty fun, they definitely have fun. And James is even better when he's not angry, when he's reviewing movies & TV shows that he likes or is truly middle-of-the-road about.
