Favorite series finales?

Angel: "Not Fade Away"
Babylon 5: "Sleeping in Light"
Battlestar Galactica: "Daybreak"
Deep Space Nine: "What You Leave Behind"
Enterprise: "Terra Prime"*
Farscape: "The Peacekeeper Wars"
Futurama: "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings"
The Next Generation: "All Good Things..."

*:shifty:

TNG is the best sci-fi ending I can think of, it's just amazing. All the writers work clearly went into that episode and not the other 20-something episodes.
It's been awhile since I listened to it, but I seem to recall on the Star Trek - Generations DVD commentary track Ron Moore and Brannon Braga actually talk about how they'd do some work on Generations, it would feel like a chore to get out of the way before excitedly going back to work on the All Good Things... script, haha.

Angel and B5 had great endings. BSG and Farscape had great endings with just a couple flaws. I dunno if I've seen a *perfect* series finale yet, though. I think LOST will fit the bill.

After I first saw the ending of the US Life On Mars, I really hated it. But it's grown on me. I definitely like it better than the UK ending...sorry UK viewers, I'm not into:
Sam committing suicide and 1973 being his afterlife
. :p

TNG
DS9 (not perfect, but I was satisfied with it)
Buffy (again, The Gift was actually a better ersatz finale than Chosen, but the actual last episode wasn't bad)
Angel (Controversial, but I loved it)

Worst would be the X Files, Enterprise (If Demons/Terra Prime were the finale, it would be a lot better), TOS (didn't have a proper finale. All Our Yesterday's would have made a better last episode than Turnabout Intruder)Quantum Leap (poor Sam...)

Really? Hmm, I haven't seen the alternate ending, I'll have to look for that.

Awesome Finales: -TNG. Damn, this was an event. I remember it being shown in Toronto's Skydome (now lamentably renamed the Rogers Centre). It was the perfect sendoff for this crew that I had grown to love; well-written (even if there were a couple of plot-holes), well-acted, interesting science-fiction concept, and the final scene was very appropriate and touching. Memo to Berman and Braga: this is how you make a "valentine to the fans".

-Angel. At first, I wasn't sure how to react to it, but I quickly came to realize that it was the perfect way to end this show. I'm sure it frustrated some fans, who might view it as a cliffhanger, but I think it was a very appropriate resolution to the series, and very true to the themes and spirit of the show. It's all the more remarkable when you consider the brief time that Joss and co. had between the cancellation announcement and filming to fashion it into a series finale.

Pretty Good Finales: DS9 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Neither was without their flaws, but each had some great moments, and I found both to be more or less satisfying.

The less said about stuff like "These Are the Voyages" or "The Truth", the better.

I just finished rewatching Six Feet Under, so 'Everyone's Waiting,' is at the top for me at the mo. Other emotionally crippling endings include Battlestar Galactica, DS9, Babylon 5, and Angel.

I also liked the Buffy finale (despite a lacklustre run-up), TNG, and The Wire.

Babylon Five's "Sleeping in Light" is the finest series finale. I watched all five seasons right through recently, for the first time, and sobbed all through "Sleeping in Light". The final five minutes of the episode are my favourite moment of TV ever.

I agree. I was moved beyond words the first time I saw that one myself. Did you catch JMS shutting down the station's power? That was a cool nod to the creator.

I hated the DS9 Finale. That was my second favorite show at the time but the ending completely killed my love for the show after that. The whole Pagh Wraith story had the most ridiculous anti-climactic ending I've ever seen. And the big final Dominion War space battle was like 90% stock footage.

I did indeed, and it was :). The fact that he essentially wrote the entire thing himself, to such complexity, is astounding.

I presume we're doing Sc-Fi/Fan only here

The Best
Angel- "Not Fade Away"
Battlestar Galactica- "Daybreak"
Deep Space 9- "What You Leave Behind"

Good
Buffy- "Chosen"
Quantum Leap- "Mirror Image"
Babylon 5- "Sleeping in Light"

I recently wathed all of Babylon 5 for the first time. I though SIL was great, but maybe a bit overrated after all the build up I'd heard about for years.
TNG's was ok, but to me it's far too full of technobabble bullshit, which doesn't even make sense.

The Best of the Bunch:
Angel, "Not Fade Away"
TNG, "All Good Things..."

Pretty Good:
Battlestar Galactica, "Daybreak"
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "Chosen"
DS9, "What You Leave Behind"

Bottom of the Barrel:
ENT, "These Are the Voyages"
VOY, "Endgame"

Favourites:

TNG - "All Good Things..."
DS9 - "What You Leave Behind"
B5 - "Sleeping In Light"
Buffy - "Chosen"
Angel - "Not Fade Away"

Disappointing/Hated:

VGR - "Endgame" (business as usual for the series)
ENT - "These Are The Voyages" (previous episode would have been a much better ending)
X-Files - "The Truth" (should have ended after the previous season)
BSG - "Daybreak" (still on the fence with this one)
SG-1 - "Unending" (it was like the 3rd or 4th finale, and ended up being the weakest one. Glad we got the tv movies)

SF-wise:

Blakes 7 - "Blake": For years this was my personal gold standard for series finales of any genre. Then it was joined by...
Babylon 5 - "Sleeping in Light", which is just about perfect and still gets to me every time I watch it.

Lesser, but still good, SF finales:

TNG - "All Good Things"
Farscape - "Peacekeeper Wars"
Voyager - "Endgame" (yes, I know I'm supposed to think it's crap, but I don't).

(My favourite ever series finale, though, isn't an SF one - it's Six Feet Under's "Everyone's Waiting", which is IMO beyond superlatives.)
