Despite my feelings for the series overall, BSG had some very good mid-season finales, specifically Pegasus and the one in Season 4.
I'll second the two BSG mid-season finales tomalak mentioned above. Not sure of any other shows I watch that have deliberately split their seasons like that, so it's hard to think of any others.
"Pegasus" immediately came to mind. I love that whole ending sequence. "I'm getting my men back," gives me chills every time I hear it.
"A Good Man Goes to War" was also a great way to break up a season from Doctor Who, giving us the details on who River Song really is.
