I know many others disagree with but I just don't find ScarJo to be that good of an actress. In the right role where she's called on to project little more than a certain detachment (Lost in Translation, Match Point) she's effective, but that's about it.

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams, OTOH, I agree are usually extremely good.

If you really "don't get" the clear and short line between Point A of "she's no worse than Denise Richards" and Point B of "she's a bad actress", you might want to log off for a while and take some long, contemplative walks in a quiet woods.

Besides, Richards was just fine playing more or less herself in Wild Things, a much better movie than Fox has yet appeared in, so even then, your comparison is wanting.
