So here it is. Seems the art of making a good trailer is far more difficult and more important than crafting a film. Here are some favorites of mine:
TDK: "You've changed things." The amazing thing about TDK is that the film so closely realized the potential we saw it had with this trailer. It's the perfect trailer to introduce the Joker, and show that he is different than Nicholson's. It's such a masterpiece that it has been praised and spoofed with such affection like I've never seen. I've seen it (or versions of it) over 100 times, easily.
Star Trek: "I dare you to do better". Before I can go into why this trailer works, I have to tell you what was wrong with the previous Kirk driving trailer. J.J. said he wanted to bring in fans by beginning in a down to eath way, but that trailer overdid it. Over half of it was the car scene which in retrospect is pretty dumb and though unSTarTrek is what he was going far, he succeeded in not such a good way. My buddy knew the film was being made but he didn't follow it like we do here, and when he wanted to see it badly. When this trailer aired he lost interest long before the rapid images flashed in the last 45 seconds. On the contrair he loved the new trailer, so do many non-fans I've spoken to. It also starts Earthbound but it has an emotional core to it.
