Mine used to be the Prequel era. After reading the novelizations, a few other books, and seeing all of the clone wars, I decided to get into the long dreaded(for me) post-Rotj era. And I loved it. Some of my favorite books were
  • Visions of the Future(Hand of Thrawn duology
  • Vector Prime & Onslaught(Book 1 & 2 of the Yuuzhan story)
  • Dark Journey & Rebel Dream(books 10 & 11
  • Legacy of the Force(Book I-IX)
  • Fate of the Jedi(Book I-IX)

My absolute favorite used to be the era of "Tales of the Jedi" and the various associated story arcs, as I loved the more mythic and primitive depiction of the Star Wars universe.

Unfortunately all that went the way of the dodo with the de-canonization of the EU.

The funny things about the really old tales. The stuff that is thousands of years old relative to the Battle of Yavin. It may technically not be canon, but it is the grey area, because it doesn't effect the main stories because it was so long ago. Yet they have used stuff, or at least hints of stuff from those tales in the Clone Wars, Rebels, and other canon properties. I suspect that there is an Old Republic era animation in the works, since they are tapping that era hard for Star Wars lore now.

The choice for Disney canon seems odd to me. Disney canon is simply canon. But I chose the Prequel era. Though I am also a fan of the Old Republic, New Jedi Order, and Legacy eras as well. It's strange but particularly under the now Legends canon, the Original Trilogy era I liked least.

Could it be that Disney/Lucasfilm seemed to be beating the Original Trilogy like a dead horse? Even the Sequel Trilogy almost seem like a remake of the Original Trilogy.

There really isn't enough data points to make such a comparison. There are still two films to go and it will be different directors as well.

The choices right now are familiar, and will likely become more bold as Disney gets its feet under them regarding this new market, and LFL has an idea of what Disney wants.

I've said this before elsewhere, but The Force Awakens was made the way that it was because J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan saw it as their opportunity to do a Star Wars movie that attempted to recreate what they thought Star Wars is without bothering to actually THINK about what it is.

It's why Rogue One turned out to be so much better, because Gareth Edwards and his team didn't try to put their own "stamp" on Star Wars; they just made a Star Wars movie, albeit one that still took chances and "broke the mold" of what a 'traditional' Star Wars movie was expected to be.

I will agree that it doesn't really make much sense to have Legends eras included in this poll, largely because they're meaningless except for the sake of "nostalgia".

but the "eras" come from what is now Legends. They were listed on the first few pages of every book. I don't think nucanon has established any eras yet.

As for R1, yea, I've heard it's really good. I can't wait to see it.

^It's just an easy shorthand for talking about certain periods that are distinct in one way or the other. It need not be an in-universe term.

Indeed, from the thing Pablo has said of late, LF seem to have rejected the idea of "eras" since that's not how history works. Thus it is possible to Stormtroopers to run across a group of battledroids without it having to be some sort of incongruous thing.

My personal favourite: Tales of the Jedi. Mostly for the aesthetic design of it all.

Perhaps "generations" would be a more appropriate term?

Era doesn't bother me as a quick term to refer to distinct time in the franchise. I have no problems with them overlapping. I think the "Darth Vader" comic did this well, when they visit Geonosis and saw a queen.

Even in Rebels when they did run into some old battle droids, the Stormtroopers played it off like it was a rare, but not completely unheard of occurrence. They did totally ignore that the battle droids were talking to them, and just decided to shoot them and stomp them with their walkers.

To be fair, given how annoying the droids could be, what would you do?

Since my experience with the old EU is limited, I have to say that the KOTOR era really speaks to me. I loved those two games.

The "Legends" EU up 'til the NJO series will always have a place in my heart. In the 90s, reading about Imperial Remnants and Luke's academy during recess was just as big a part of Star Wars as my well-worn VHS tapes of the OT.

The New Republic and NJO Legends eras, I only read the first five NJO books, but I really liked the set up we had there.
The PT era is pretty cool.
I've only seen it in the KOTOR game and the first couple trades of the comic, but I liked what we saw in them.

Outside of the OT, my favorite period was the immediate aftermath: basically Zahn's and Stackpole's work, the Rogue Squadron comic series, and a couple of other isolated SW books.
