Favorite "creepy" episode

For me, it was always "Schisms." The crew standing in the holodeck re-creating the alien lab surrounded by the clicking sounds was incredibly creepy to me at the time, especially later in the episode when we see Riker pulled into that universe, being picked at by those fish-monks. Fantastic episode.

They didn't really do much of those. Schisms is definitely up there. The other two I can think of is Frame of Mind and Violations.

Maybe Night Terrors too.

Conspiracy is still pretty creepy with the creepy-crawly bugs. Watching the host alien explode under phaser-fire was kind of gross and only served to increase the creepiness factor.

Both "Conspiracy" and "Phantasms" are my top two by far, though the latter doesn't feel, for lack of more appropriate word, "cliche".

Night Terrors always does it for me. The music is great and really adds to the atmosphere of people hallucinating and seemingly starting to lose their minds. Every time the dead bodies sit up in the morgue I get a shiver up my spine.

As far as the other ones mentioned here, Frame of Mind is more disturbing to me, than creepy. Schisms is pretty creepy in parts but not so much in other parts. I really don't find Phantasms to be creepy. Yeah, it's strange as all get out but not creepy to me. More of a weird funhouse kind of thing. Conspiracy has definite creep-factor in it, plus horror and paranoia. One of my favorite episodes. I always wanted them to do a follow up episode.

Agreed totally. And now that they're doing at least one show in the post-Nemesis timeline -- we still might get that "Conspiracy" follow-up!

"Schisms" is an interesting case, in that I think it's one of the few TNG eps not well served by the HD conversion. You can just see too much now in the alien realm, and for me that dispels so much of the creepiness -- those scenes actually worked better when they were less sharply defined and more shadowy and atmospheric.

Others that are memorably creepy for me that haven't been mentioned yet are "Where Silence Has Lease" (my personal 2nd creepiest ep), "Identity Crisis", "Remember Me", and the early Borg appearances. There's also a soft spot in my heart for the comically failed creepiness of "The Royale" and "Sub Rosa."

I thought about Where Silence Has Lease. (another of my favorites. Would have loved to see Nagilum come back in another episode) I get a different feeling from that episode. Yeah, some creepiness sure but more like an "X-Files what is this crap?" kind of vibe going on. You're not sure where it's headed but you get the feeling it ain't going to be good.
And poor Ensign Redshirt. Good thing Wesley's shift was over, huh?

I appreciate everyone's observations and contributions to the thread.

Creepiest for me are 'Schisms", "Where Silence Has Lease" ,"Frame of Mind" and "Conspiracy." I could have liked a follow up to "Conspiracy" and "Where Silence Has Lease". However in a way those episodes and "Schisms" are best served by not explaining everything.

"Conspiracy" gets creepy early once Data exposes the odd pattern to Starfleet actions and the Picard meeting with Keel, Rixx and Scott (very effective and memorable scene--would have liked to have seen Scott and Rixx again). Sets a creepy tone for later events well.

There's also a soft spot in my heart for the comically failed creepiness of "The Royale" and "Sub Rosa."

Yes I get enjoyment out of these as well. "Sub Rosa" doesn't serve Dr. Crusher well (she and her son got the worst writing) but it is just so weirdly wrong. The writing seems stuck on being a twisted "Wuthering Heights" and "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" or something and it fails but fails in a goofy and charming way. But hey I get it if you hate it.

For me it's Conspiracy and Genesis.
Conspiracy because of the ending of it particularly the scene where Picard and Riker fire on the alien creature and the way that Remmick's body explosive and then we see the mother creature. I remember watching that at the time and thinking "How the hell did they get away with that?"
Genesis is pretty creepy too and a little bit of a horrifying concept when you think of it. The fact that human and the aliens on the enteprise could not only evolve but de-evolve back to their primary instincts. Great directing by Gates McFadden.

For me: Phantasms is the best creepy episode overall. Not only the nightmare stuff but also the entire slow build-up, Data getting ever more obsessed with his own dreams and finally getting unhinged (or so it seems at the time) when he stabs Deanna. (Schisms is pretty creepy as well, but only in parts. Conspiracy never did it for me, too over-the top.)

Best creepy scene though in my book is one from Night Terrors, where Beverly conducts an autopsy, thinks she hears a sound, looks around her and suddenly all the bodies are sitting up, camera zooms in on her, Beverly shivers and says "go away", and next the zoom out we see everything is back to normal again. So simple, yet so effective.

Okay I see we are going with the classic terms for creepy because I was about to cast my vote for the episode were O'brien has to consider the ramifications of his wife now being in the body of a 12 year old girl. For me I will also go with "Night Terrors." I understand many people don't like the episode but I have always really enjoyed it. I would also go with "Frame of MInd" but also "Aresonal of Freedom." I would also cast a vote for "Bobby Trap" Ship is trapped in a asteroid field with a ghost ship nearby with everyone dead from a long ago war. The episode is filled with tons of tension where the clicking clock actually works IMO.

The Game. Everyone is addicted to that ridiculous game. Like today everyone is addited to his/her smartphone. It's difficult to meet people without gazing on their phones or without their phones glued to their ears.
