Favorite Alternate Universe.

I like the Mirror Universe of TOS:Mirror, Mirror and ENT: In a Mirror, Darkly. I do not like what DS9 did to it. My runner up is the revisionist history of VOY: Living Witness.

Mirror Universe: No fat people allowed.
No fat women, at any rate.

Thanks a lot for excluding me.

Well I didn't want to live there anyway.

Trek's always been that way. Personally I think it would've been kinda funny if they showed a bigger girl on Risa being led off by a muscular guy or something. To say nothing of sending the whole diversity message the show's always preaching.

Fat guys could always get a job on Star Trek-- Harry Mudd, Cyrano Jones, the Pakleds, the Hierarchy. But oversized women-- the only one I can remember was that 4-armed piano player.

This is of course the same universe where George Bailey was never born.
Clarence! Clarence! Help me, Clarence! Get me back! Get me back, I don't care what happens to me!

Kia Winn? Later years Uhura?
You left out Guinan. :shifty:

But those (and the pianist) are individuals, not necessarily representative of their entire species, as with Pakleds and the Hierarchy.

I never thought of Winn as fat, possibly because I tend to think of Louise Fletcher as how she looked as Nurse Ratched. I have the same sort of mental image of the younger Nichelle Nichols.

I don't really know if I'd count that one as an alternate universe. I see that as more of a future history story.

It's like when we see George Washington as the first president of the U.S., when we all know that he was really a peanut farmer from Whinipeg.;)

The Abramsverse, hands down. It's fun and exciting.

(although I guess, since it's the here and now of Trek, it's Prime that's the alternate universe)

Given that (personal prediction) the Abrams' universe will basically disappear after the next movie, the prime will remain the prime universe, and Abrams' triple movie creation will remain one of the alternate universes.

In the middle of the episode Mirror Mirror, it didn't even briefly become the prime universe, even though it was the Star Trek of the moment.

There are several fanfic AU scenarios that are rather intriguing. The AU depicted in the novel Killing Time was interesting, too.

I liked Yesterday's Enterprise as an episode, but I wouldn't want to live in that universe.

Maybe... one of the universes where Worf married Deanna? That way he wouldn't have been around on DS9 and we'd have seen less of Jadzia.

Hah! And Riker turns into the bitter old man from AGT. Though Jadzia probably would've hooked up with Martok or something. :p

Agreed. Some of the most horrible DS9 episodes were mirror universe episodes. But TOS and ENT did the mirror universe right.

Me thinks that when AbramsTrek is over, it'll be another reboot in another universe.

Hell, even if they do go back to the Prime Universe, fans with obsess over continuity glitches and insist it's "really" an AU, just like they did with Enterprise!;)

The most infamously slashy novel in Trek history. I loved it until the mind-meld scene, at which point I laughed my ass off and read it to all my Trek friends:)

The author is still writing K/S Trek ebooks, but with the names changed and serial numbers filed off.

So? There must be a market for K/S material, or there wouldn't have been so much of it. I don't especially care for it myself as a subgenre of TOS fanfic, but there have been a few decent stories I've come across over the years.

It's actually the backstory for the Killing Time universe that intrigued me. The crewman who was tormenting Kirk commented that things would have been a lot worse if Vulcan hadn't stepped in to civilize Earth (paraphrase).

Making money from slightly-modified copyrighted characters strikes me as dishonest, although I guess with 50 Shades of Grey being such a big hit (it started life as a Twilight fanfic) all bets are off.

Agreed, the worldbuilding in that novel was great, giving just the right little hints to get the imagination flowing.

My personal favorite AU story is Enterprise: In a Mirror Darkly. For a show that could be a little slow and plodding at times these were two excellent episodes. Mirror Phlox was just plain evil. The birth of the Agony booth. Lots and lots of continuity references. Who wouldn't look up their alternate selves in the history files? As for the books I haven't read many but "Q Squared" has several alternate timelines going on in it and is a fun read.

Yeah, my favorite is the Abrams Alternate Universe. I like the characters, aesthetics, locations, aliens, etc. I can't wait to see where they (I guess not Abrams but his crew) go in the upcoming movies, assuming another one will be made.

I still do consider Abrams the "Alternate" universe, however, since the Prime has already been established.

I have to agree here. The Abrams Universe has done wonders for opening up Trek-ness in its sets and settings and aliens and I could really get lost in that for hours.

(I also like that the films shook off the lethargy that dragged down the last couple Berman Universe projects, which isn't really inherent to any Trek universe but does affect how we see the things; a great-looking alien in a boring story is to some measure wasted. Science Officer 0714? Let me know more about this fellow.)
