Vin Diesel has announced on his Facebook page that there will be another movie, and the release date is set for Memorial Day 2013.

Here's hoping Justin Lin is still directing - and that maybe we can finally find out what happens *after* Tokyo Drift!

5 did better box office than any of them, so I guess people care - and I'd personally put the first one about 3rd in ranking (after 3 and 5)

I care. This is one of the few film series that I seem to enjoy more and more with each successive sequel, even if it is empty junk food cinema. I say bring on #6.

Justin Lin seems to be the hot "it" director right now. He's been attached to several projects over the last year and a bit. I know him as the director of the "Community" Modern Warfare episode and "Annapolis". Heh.

Is it just me, or does it seem like this turned into a mega-franchise from out of nowhere? I recall the first two movies doing okay, and then the third was kind of a blip on the radar, but starting with the fourth one it's just become huge.

The fourth one was huge 'cause it brought the original cast from the first back together.

And the last one continued that, but with characters from across the franchise brought back, too.

Yeah, Justin Lin will be back. It mentions him in a deadline article. I'm not sure why Universal wouldn't want him as director considering he brought a dead franchise back to life and made it popular again.

Also nice to finally get a release date.

The Fast and the Furious > 2 Fast 2 Furious > Fast & Furious > Fast Five > Tokyo Drift

At least, I think that's how it goes. I haven't seen any of the movies since 2F2F.

I really liked four and loved five so this it good news

This must be getting up to one of the longer modern era Hollywood movie franchises now. 6 puts it up there with Rocky and Star Wars. Bond and Star Trek are still a long way off, but I can't think of any others that have gone beyond 6 movies.

Quite impressive, when you think about it!
