Don't spoil it for me. This is the only movie I'm actively rooting against. ;)

<<"This is very much an old school origin story - they aren't really "The Fantastic Four" until the very end of the movie - and I wonder if that has left Fox confused with what to show and how to show it.">>

    That doesn't sound good either...

I'm not so sure that would be good news. Marvel has its timetable/slate laid out for some years to come and it's unlikely that they'd adjust it to include a FF movie. More likely they'd look at the fact that two different takes on the story had failed and concentrate on more profitable characters.

I'm still hoping that this will be good. I remember the negative vibe that preceded X-Men. I'm not saying I expect it to be good but I hope so. If it's not and it's a flop, I think we won't see the FF onscreen for a long time.

While I don't have any faith in this movie, reshoots are not uncommon. A lot of the talk is they want to add more action to the movie, which would help explain why the reshoots would be described as "expensive."

I would wager that Marvel would try a different tactic and make Fantastic Four into a television property (either on ABC, Netflix or even ABC Family). Even spread across 13 episodes, the cumulative budget would still be cheaper than a feature film; and if you think effects would be cost prohibitive, just look at what a fifth place network like CW is doing with Flash. Firestorm alone is proof a human torch can be done.

FF is too valuable of a property to Marvel to just completely side line. Fox being too ignorant to properly use the franchise doesn't make it a dud. Marvel has shown they realize that by going forward with Daredevil on Netflix.

^Good point, particularly re Flash etc. Still, a FF TV show would be a lot more expensive than DD is likely to be.

I had this essential thought as well.
I'd rather the property sit on Marvel's shelf for the next 5yrs than keep having subpar versions make their way to the public.

Just having FF back instantly means SSurfer and/or Galactus could be in play for GotG 3 or maybe even Infinity War.

I feel it's at least 'A' reason why Ghost Rider and Punisher have yet to emerge. Marvel is allowing the stink of the mediocre versions to dilute in the public's conscious + they have plenty going on without them currently. Then, when it's right, they can bring those properties out and do them right. Same w/Fantastic Four.

Oh, and I've also said(if not here, somewhere about the internets) that this FF is nothing but a poorly disguised Chronicle 2. I didn't even like the first Chronicle so it's double whammy for me.

I had a suspicion something was up with how incredibly quiet Fox has been about this movie so far. Usually with a big new tentpole superhero movie there's at least some kind of talk or buzz from the studio beforehand, or they at least show off the new costumes early on to build interest (like they did with the original FF movie).

But there's been barely a peep about this movie.

This is the part that really gets me. After everything from the past fifteen years the last thing we need is yet another origin story that takes up the entire film.

Not at all. If Marvel regained the FF rights, they would happily rearrange their plans to accommodate something--film or television.

Reed has a beard at the moment in the comics.

It's never really been said that his elasticity "stretches" to include his hair follicles.

Gotta wonder if he can do with his hair, like what Medusa does with her hair, why the hell he cuts it, considering that'd make him twice as powerful and twice as deadly.

(Maybe he doesn't want to accidentally arouse Blackbolt?)

Although Reed once said "If I was just about my super powers, I would have retired long ago."

I wasn't aware Reed was resting his hat any place else worth reading?

First of all, you're discussing click-bait from ComicBookMovie as if it's real information or newsworthy in some way. That's a mistake. Even Badass Digest is being more realistic in their reporting on the reshoots. Remember World War Z?

They don't need to do another origin.

    So bored.

Start with Johnny's wife being revealed as a Skrull and Move on from there.

    Oh.

I just realized the plunging scope of how atomically they underused the actress who played Alicia Masters (Johnny's Skrull Wife) last time, considering who that actress was... Olivia-fucking-Pope.

The intensity of the ball melting speechifying I see on Scandal makes just about every Superhero movie made in the last 15 years feel figuratively like a rerun of Reading Rainbow, but obviously with less educational value.

If you didn't understand the code, watch Scandal, it's better than anything else being made today.

It will put hairs on your chest.

I'm not putting a lot of stock in this rumor simply because, I agree, reshoots are normal. That being said, what little reliable information I've heard about this movie has been unappealing (combined with scores of unappealing rumors). Fox has done absolutely nothing to counter all this. Granted, they don't have to and maybe the first trailer will fix it all, but it's hard to not get a negative feeling about this movie from what's out there.

I do, too. Say what one likes about the artistic result of its reshoot, it was objectively a major retooling of a mostly-completed movie. Is anyone saying that's the case here as well?

That bolded part sounds good to me... :bolian:
