There's a longstanding Ethiopian Jewish community, so he could be from there. If he can act in a serious role, I'd have no problem with it. I don't think he'd be LES Jewish, but the socioeconomic background that gave rise to Ben Grimm probably doesn't exist in a modern New York and could use a bit of an update.
Jack Kirby was Jewish (as was Lee, but it was Kirby putting himself into Grimm), so they should keep that. And I meant he should be an American with Ethiopian ancestry.Sure, he could be Jewish, but the key was the part about him being part of the Lower East Side Jewish community, which was poor, working class, tough, etc. The African American community in the United States as a whole is probably closer to that spirit than the Ethiopian community. I don't think it's his religious beliefs themselves that's important.
Seems to me like there's a lot of black muscle characters in sci-fi media, I think Reed would be more interesting than Ben if they were to go that route with the casting.

Sources tell Variety that Kit Harington, Jack O’Connell and Miles Teller are in line to get test offers to read for the role of Richards while Saoirse Ronan, Kate Mara and Margot Robbie are being tested for Storm. As of right now Michael B. Jordan is the only name being mentioned as a possibility to play Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, but that could still change.
