Fantastic Four Being Rebooted

Well the fact they're choosing to reboot suggests that Fox is at least AWARE of the faults of the previous two.

If the last one had been a financial success, there wouldn't be a reboot. The only faults they are probably aware of is money and the box office.

A new direction is good press..

Maybe this time Galactus won't be a giant space tornado.
And maybe The Thing could look like he was made from rocks. And maybe Alicia Masters could be a red-headed white girl. And maybe Johnny Storm could be blonde. And maybe an actual actress could play Sue Storm. And maybe Doctor Doom could be a foreign dictator.

While I didn't dislike the movies as much as Shazam! here did, everything he says here is truth.

In fact, as out-right bad as the Roger Corman FF was (perversely, I love this movie despite it's badness), it got all of the above (except perhaps the getting an actress to play Sue thing), right! Corman's Dr. Doom was gloriously, magnificently over the top, just as the character should be. The Corman movie was more what an FF movie should be than the two movies we got.

The movies are not bad, they just are not FF. Just don't know what they were going for. They did get Torch and Thing right. Mr. Fantastic was ok but not quite right. Sue was wrong all the way around. Alicia while I don't care about her being black, role was not big enough.

Still don't get how they plan on doing a Silver Surfer movie, but they need to figure that out before they make an FF movie, not that I think the two have to be related.

FF2 made more than twice it's budget, which is the standard metric for minimum success. As I keep saying, it wasn't Iron Man numbers, but no one can call it a flop with a straight face.

So Hulk, Punisher and now Fantatstic Four, I think it's generally good that the live action people are as willing to play with the comic properties as the comic book world is. Why should they be slaved to one take on the material when the source hasn't been?

Jessica Alba's acting makes my teeth ache.

I love Ioan Gruffudd, but he had no help from the scriopt in creating the character, and frankly, I'd rather see him in something else.

I don't hold out much hope for a reboot. I didn't hate these movies, but they weren't very good. OTOH, Akiva Goldsman doesn't inspire confidenbce at all, and I wanna take his Oscar away.

As badly as I want Brad Bird to direct anything, I'd prefer it to be original material.

Maybe this new Fantastic Four will have the Skrulls. I always liked those green shape-shifters! -- RR

Well, if they chose not to totally reboot, then I think FF3 would be a great time to tell the Puppet Master / Doctor Doom story of Liddleville. Not only is it the only Puppet Master story worth telling, but it also serves as a great re-introduction to the origins and characterizations of the Fantastic Four.

Outside of that, I think the U-Foes would be a good choice given that telling their origin would be a way of refreshing the Fantastic Four origin. Of course, I don't think Fox has rights to the U-Foes; I would bet that the U-Foes are tied to Hulk at Universal / Marvel Studios.

Skrulls? I'm really not too excited about seeing that unless it involves the Super Skrull.

They kinda ruined the Super-Skrull with Johnny Storm going all Super-Skrull at the end of the last one (or was it the first one?).

^No, that was in the second one.

The more I think about it, the more the U-Foes appeal, even in a non-rebooted sequel. The movies present them as this super-famous group who everyone loves. What if someone wanted a piece of that action and tried to recreate the accident that gave them their powers ?

I'd like to see the Negative Zone. Or Doom trying to launch the Baxter Building into space. Basically any of that mental sci-fi stuff that makes the FF such a read.

IMHO, the first two FF movies, while far from perfect, were far better than either of the Batman movies that Goldsman was involved in. And much better than seasons 2 o3 3 of Heroes (a writer for that show is apparently writing this movie). So well done on this reboot ...

Nonsense. Fans here generally didn't like the scripts for Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. That much is clear. But let's be honest about these movies. Director Joel Schumacher gave both films a lot of style. Also, Batman Forever had Nicole Kidman. Director Tim Story's work on the FF films was passable at best, and neither FF film had any great stars.

Fox should consider Alex Proyas to direct the next FF.

No, they actually were.

In your opinion...one not shared by enough people that they made significant box office, just not Iron Man numbers, and a hell of a lot better than more than a few Marvel films that get 1/10 the hate.
