Fan Productions: The Next Generation?

Plenty, but none that have managed to match the production standards of the main TOS era productions.
The TNG-era productions tend to be done in european countries, like Dark Armada. And that eurocentrism (sometimes with rather thick accents) might make it harder to generate an audience in the US.
They also tend to rely more on green-screen work than physical sets, and in many of the older productions it is very noticeable, and not in a good way. It may also be a matter of resources, TOS fandom likely skews somewhat older in the US, and these fans may have more money to put toward their productions.
I do expect more TNG-era shows in future, but so far the TOS-era ones seem to be putting out a higher average quality product.

Hidden Frontier was a MAJOR set of fan series out of LA, but the production standards were much lower than many current TOS productions. They still released an audio episode once in a while. http://www.hiddenfrontier.com/ . They produced a 50 episode series, "Hidden Frontier" as well as several other series. If you look at Star Trek Review's Table of Contents, http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/2.html, TNG/VOY/DS9 era films are called, "Silver Age" . They start at Blog 80 (which is a Dutch group) and continue through Blog 133. This listing does not include short films set in this era. I would also want to highlight Star Trek Osiris: http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/82.html . My favorite fan series is actually Star Trek: Intrepid, which is from this era, see http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/109.html . The German filmm, Digital Ghost is particularly good and available with English subtitles. Another excellent film (but which also requires subtitles) is the Czech, Metrensky Incident, http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/85.html . The animated series, Star Trek Time Warp, has mostly one person doing all the voices, but is well animated in 3D and well written. http://startrekreviewed.blogspot.com/2009/06/94.html .
