Falling Skies - Season 2- discussion/Spoilers

I think the aliens know exactly where they are and they're being hearded south. Who knows for what sinister purpose but the Reservation theory floated here seems plausible. Somehow, keeping a few humans around must be pretty important to the aliens because they're willing to throw away some skitters and mechs to keep everything convincing. Charleston is a thousand miles away and I'm assuming NYC and DC are bombed out, although Philadelphia and Baltimore are probably like Boston, emptied out and supporting towers. Should be an interesting trip. I'd certainly head south instead of trying to rough a winter in the Catskills, although I will miss Boston.

i cant believe nobody has brought up ben and the weird eyed skitter, with bens spikes glowing like that, is he reading his mind or planting sugesstions, or both?

The red eye skitter is just a sterotypical really bad guy. They could have easily have given him an eye patch, or a moustache to twirl instead of the red eye.
It doesn't matter what he's doing to him, it will ultimately die a gruesome death at the hands of Ben.

There has been some crazy theorizing on other sites that "Red-Eye" is Tom's supposedly dead wife turned into a skitter.

Whatever the case, the producers deliberately chose to make Red-Eye visually different so we can separate and identify him from the mass of everyday skitters. Which means at some point he is going to have his own agenda that is different from the rest of the aliens.

Because she was pretty, not because she was dangerous?

But if she's dangerous, a racetraitor (usually not a good word.) even, doesn't that make her stripsearch sexless and downright ugly?

This is reminding me about how Admiral Kane authorized the rape of female Cylons to enhance the interrogation process.

I suspect this is related to the reason that Tom was the only one allowed to live.

I am in the Red Eye is Falling Skies' Teal'c camp myself.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm thinking, too.

I'll keep watching in hopes of improvement. At least there's more action this year.

I think you're being to hard on the show. IMO, the actor who plays Ben is as competent as the one who plays Carl in the Walking Dead - and both have had to grow into their roles more so than adult actors.

Regarding the general dialog as you said the writers were wise enough not to put Tom in bed with Anne. Jimmy's death was unexpected and a great plot twist as well.

The only poor character development IMO are the motivations of the skinny aliens. They are indeed poorly written as the antagonists. And while the illterations to native Americans plight is good historically, I'm not sure it fits exactly into the storyline.

Think souther and a few hundred years earlier.

Cortez was a prick.

Meh, the goals of the Spanish was to enlighten the Aztecs to the teachings of Jesus and Christianity [however misguided that was] as well as of course plunder their gold.

I'm thinking the motivations of the aliens is far more sinister than that.

I should have commented on this myself. Agree.

I think the question is, what can they find on Earth that isn't abundant elsewhere, even in our Solar System?

Life.

They wouldn't be here for our water or our mineral wealth. They could get that anywhere without having to waste lives.

One nit-pick for the interstellar aliens in sci-fi that are always coming to enslave us for our "life," but you'd think that any species that was sufficently advanced to presumably travel faster than the speed of light would also have sufficient tehcnical knowledge to clone a slave race as well as opposed to taking the time and trouble in messing with us humans.

Ratings fell to a new series low.

1.3 in the 18-49 demo, getting a bit shaky there.

I can see why - there is too much tepid acting and writing. You gotta grab people by the throat to hang onto their attention anymore. They've obviously got the right idea in many ways, but the execution is falling short.

Anyway, I doubt TNT will cancel it before the end of this season - if the ratings level off, that might even be good for an S3 - and I'm curious to see what happens when they get to Charleston.

There may be the ethical concerns of cloning actual people rather then using those apes from earth.

Wow, the go'a'uld are still disgusting! Especially when they've learned from the Borg how to get metal out of nowhere!

Seriously the arbitrary physical jeopardy wasn't terribly strong plotting. Weaver finding his baby girl a married woman (even if not officially) so that he's lost her again the second he finds her was performed well, but is a very extreme What an Amazing Coincidence! Plot. This sort of thing could have worked if they were in Boston, where the survivors would indeed have been a small world. Not now.

The concluding music video was very nicely done indeed. It was still a music video. The effort to "tighten up" or intensify the drama or whatever they call it, is having the opposite effect. Importing some of the hokey melodrama That Everyone Took Oh So Seriously is bad for this show.

None of the flab showed as clearly because there was no Popery. It would be far too much to hope that he's gone forever, unfortunately.

And we still have no idea why anyone, even aliens, would go light-years to do all this. If you can travel to the stars, what's here that you even want, much less need?

Unrelated to last night's episode per se, but National Geographic recently did an aliens attack scenario and interviewed real scientists as part of the hypothetical.

Despite the fact that sci-fi often likes to predict aliens would attack the planet for water, gold, other minerals - that's unlikely because those things are far more plentiful in the universe without the hassle of dealing with any resistance from humans.

However, they likely would invade to use humans and generally life on this planet as bio-matter fuel which is far less plentiful in the universe.

So the likely motive is interconnected with the children they seem to like to use as slave labor.

^^^ As I understand it, this tracks with the ancient Sumerian story of the Anunaki, a visiting species that was said to have created humanity for just that purpose.
