Fall Anime 2010

Ill have to give this season a shot. I completely missed like the last years worth of anime because of stupid work
You and me both. I've barely managed to get through like three series in the last year and ten more that I started but never found the time to finish.

I'm glad there isn't much this season. Maybe I can get caught up by winter.

Well, a few shows started... but yeah, if you have a CR sub (or "other means") you probably owe it to yourself to watch both Panty and Stocking and Star Driver. Whether you hate them or not, I don't know, but they're worth watching.

Watched the first ten minutes of Panty and Stocking. Think I'll give that one a miss... maybe watch something a bit more wholesome. Like Bible Black.

May as well ask this here rather than start a new thread: does anyone know of a review site that goes into detail about the quality of "official" subtitles? I want to avoid buying DVDs that include clumsy attempts to translate the honorifics, but this information seems hard to come by.

Well, personally I enjoy these threads a lot. It's good to see what the anime crowd here is watching. Sometimes I get a few suggestions for myself which I hadn't considered.

As for me I'm watching:

Ongoing Series:
Bleach
The Legend of Legendary Heroes
Naruto Shippuden
Shiki

New Things for the Fall I'll give a shot:
Hakuoki-Hekketsu Roku-Sequel to something I watched and I want to see what happens with the story

Heaven's Lost Property-Forte- So far is more of the same which works as a humorous passtime.

Psychic Detective Yakumo- The most promising title of the season in my view. It's a serious supernatural title that reminds me of Ghost Hunt which I loved.

Stardriver-Eh? Not what I was expecting and I'm underwhelmed, but I'll give it my usual 5 episode rule.

Toaru Majutsu no Index II- So far this series is doing a lot to reedeem the franchise. The storyline continues where Index left off. It looks like Academy City is going to become a battlefield once again.

Togainu no Chi- Interesting action, has a good story concept, and nice animation , but it's heavy on the shonen Ai undertones so I may drop it depending on how far they go with that aspect since man-love doesn't interest me.

The World God Only Knows- I am going to check this out simply because it's by Manglobe, an animation studio I liked responsible for Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy.

The only things really worth watching this year as far as TV thus far have been:

Highschool of the Dead
Durarara
B Gata H Kei
Sekirei: Pure Engagement

No Hellsing episode, no third season to Dokuro-chan... can anybody recommend something to me (preferably violent, what with the blood and the decapitations and whatnot)?

Sounds like you need some Black Lagoon, Claymore, Elfen Lied, Kara no Kyoukai, Kurozuka and Highschool of the Dead.

What's happening with Inuyasha? Are they creating the TV anime for it in Japan as yet? It will take forever for Wiz (I think) to do the English dub for Cartoon Network...
If you mean Inu Yasha: The Final act it aired from October 2009-March 2010, was 26 episodes and put to animation the rest of the manga, finishing it. So currently absolutely nothing is going on with the franchise. VIZ has licensed it and it's been simulcasted free, English subbed on their website and is probably still there if you wanted to go watch it.

You're forgetting K-On! and Sora no Woto!
There are probably a few others I thought were decent as well.

I've been mostly watching everything this season and I can't say that I hate anything outright. I'm mostly indifferent to the nerd shows like Bakuman, OreImo and The World Only God Knows though.

But, Panty and Stocking is pretty good if you want to see a Japanese parody of that particular period of American cartoons.
The two Shaft shows (Arakawa and Soredemo) are very Shaft/Shinbo if you like that kind of thing.
I joke that Star Driver is much like Utena in set up and premise... I'm not sure if I like it though. :lol

The rest are what they are, for better or worse.

Panty and Stocking is by Gainax plus it has staff who worked on Dead Leaves. That's two strikes against it already I'm passing on that.

Well, after watching works from Gainax over the years I've noticed a consistent pattern of theirs to have lazy rubbish endings or otherwise conclusions that get on my nerves for pretty much everything they produce. They can be pretty good series but they always seem to do something to screw up the show at the end and disappoint or frustrate me. For instance Neon Genesis Evangelion and His and Her Circumstances with their "Whoops we ran out of ink and can't animate anything anymore" endings being the worst of the offenders the rest suffer mostly from non-endings or contradictory endings which don't seem to match the show. I have dubbed this phenomenon getting "Gain-Axed". Since I'm a man who knows what he likes and dislikes, and since how something ends is important to me, after a while I just decided to steer clear of them and save myself the stress. The only two I can't say much against are Corpse Princess and Gurren Lagann.

As for Dead Leaves, that was just frelling wierd and one of the ugliest anime I've ever seen.

So they finished the entire story? With the much-awaited defeat of Naraku?

Thanks - I'll search for VIZ and the simulcast info.

Are they not going to dub it in English? I just love the Inuyasha US voice-actor going Kick-Kyo (for Kikyo) and I remember not liking the Japanese voice actor much when I had checked out some eps - too "rough" -I know that's in-character for Inuyasha but I prefer the US voice-actor.

It's been a while since I heard the twangy cords for the Naraku-music that they had.

Hellsing Ultimate Volume VIII is supposed to be released this month but I haven't heard anything new in the last couple of weeks, any news of it or someone else continuing the English versions of 5-7?

^^
I heard that the English actors are coming back to do 5-7 sometime next year. I'm not sure how accurate this is though, and I just have no idea about Volume 8.

Nice to know, the subbed versions are bareable but I'd like to complete the collection properly. The trailer for 8 was updated recently to say "October 2010" so I assume it'll be soon.

The last Gainax thing I watched was Hanamaru Kindergarten from a couple of seasons ago and I thought that was pretty fun. I'm expecting the same thing from Panty and Stocking.

Also, Evangelion had a great ending!

Oh yeah, Kimi ni Todoke is announced for next season, so Winter 2011 is chalking up to be the best season ever!

Funimation announced they had 5-7 a few months ago, so those are definitely on the way. I don't remember reading anything about a definite date for 8 though they were shooting for sometime this year.

Inu Yasha is popular and sells like crazy so yeah they'll have one eventually. I also like the dub for it a great deal.

I, however, am in full-on embargo mode on VIZ until they start releasing more Monster though, so they're not getting a cent from me until they do. I mean Monster aired fully on TV dubbed. The whole thing is done, so I don't understand what the hold up is.
