Fall Anime 2010

Currently on episode 11 of Gundam 00 season 1.

I actually like it!

Although there should be some sort of background checks on the gundam pilots.

The Saji and Louise stuff is useless at this point.

Saji and Louise, two of the most worthless Gundam characters ever beating out the orphans and the entire cast in GSD.

I generally liked the first season of Gundam 00, but I couldn't bring myself to finish the second season. Sad.

I don't even remember what went wrong and lost me. So, I guess part of the problem was it struck me as wholly forgettable.

Reuse of UC tropes, despite the fact that they were totally inappropriate for the setting. You can thank Sunrise and the Japanese viewership for that.

Not sure it's the reuse that lost me, I'm not familiar with the Universal Century timeline--I'm a very passing Gundam fan... Wing is my favorite! Though I admit that's mostly due to nostalgia.

Maybe it was the "inappropriate" part. I was just not able to get into what was happening at all. And I find myself being kind of irritated I wasted all that time on the first season and not being able to soldier on to finish the story. Hate when that happens.

You do know that most of the Meisters and Celestial Being crew were chosen because they were psychologically scarred victims of war, right? It's sort of like Fight Club- you get a bunch of disenfranchised people, give them a taste of victory/whatever, and they'll be loyal to you forever.

I don't remember them saying "We picked you because you're emotionally unstable"

If you could tell me where it was stated please.

I honestly can't remember what episode it was, but there's at least one episode in season 2 where Ian Vashti says the CB crew is committed to their mission because of they all have lost something due to war and conflict. There might be a late season 1 episode that goes into their motivations, I honestly can't remember.

And considering what most of the CB crew has been through, the Gundam Meisters are actually pretty stable. They just really, really hate war due to their experiences and don't think the world will change if they go through the system.

I wasn't a big fan of the second season as well. The first season had alot of potential, but they seemd to have back tracked from the unique (for Gundam) direction that they were taking and resorted to using old cliches.

Peace through incredible amounts of violence. Oh the irony

Yeah, it is pretty ironic, but remember that they were just the front for a giant conspiracy. They kinda had to be really overt to do anything, otherwise it would get ignored or swept under the rug by the politicians.

Anyway, in terms of this season's shows, I'm having a hard time dealing with Steins;Gate. Not because it's trying to blur the line between reality and delusion to make you question the main character's sanity, but because the main character is so freaking over the top in his reaction to things that it makes watching an episode an ordeal.

But it's kinda hilarious to see him try to remind himself that the shrine maiden is a actually a guy.

Well, if you want to see a Gundam that doesn't really use Gundam cliches you should watch the Gundam 00 movie. It's like Gundam meets Trek and steals other franchise's cliches instead. :techman:

Either that or G Gundam which is also decidedly a not-Gundam.

New contender for longest anime title ever: Moshidora Moshi Koko Yakyu no Joshi Manager ga Drucker no Management o Yondara.

They actually made me stop watching. I never finished season one.

But if you cut right down to it, is there a GD altverse that wasn't a UC rehash?

...I thought not.

And yes, it is getting old.

Which is why 00 was so disappointing in the second season. It ALMOST escaped being a rehash. Alas, it was not meant to be :(

I also agree about Saji and Louise, but towards the end of the first season they started to do some interesting stuff with them. Of course, they had to fuck it up.

G Gundam isn't much of a UC rehash, even though it keeps some of the trappings.

But yeah, at this point, the only way for a Gundam production to have a chance of not being a UC rehash is either a Western live action production or a Western co-production with a company that willing to back up the writers in eschewing UC tropes. Sunrise is too dependent on the old UC fans to risk pissing them off, so we get UC rehash AUs and Zeon remnant #5338598035 in the UC OVAs.

So, Kobato's been licensed now. Whodathunkit.

It was pretty good but it doesn't seem like something that would sell too well over here or something that many people have seen for that matter.

Yeah, it's a pretty good drama series from CLAMP. Probably right up your alley. I liked the characters and the art in the series is really gorgeous. It's about a dead girl who's given the chance to have her one wish granted by doing good deeds for people.
