Fade In: The Writing of Star Trek: Insurrection

Irony is that not a "hater" started that debate by posting about Star Trek 2009. I bumped this thread about a week after nobody else posted anything and made a post about Fade In, nobody cared. 3 days later, Sci replied to some post that was already over a month old and made it again about Star Trek 2009.

*shrugs* All I know is I noticed a thread I hadn't seen before and replied to posts.

But man, realize what you started with this! ;) :p

This is a Star Trek board and Star Trek 2009 was the last live-action product. What exactly are we suppose to be debating? I've pretty much seen every topic imaginable discussed here multiple times in the decade I've been a member.

No harm... no foul.

When did the Trek Lit section of the Trek BBS become the Trek XI section of the Trek BBS? If you want to discuss the film there, that's fair enough, I myself would rather discuss things of a Literature variety here, if some seepage happens, fair enough, but whole threads being hijacked by the vocal minority is getting tiresome. Sometimes I personally long for the whole "Bring Back Janeway" threads, yes they are almost as inane as discussions about Trek XI, but they have a whole lot more relivance as she "died" in one of the books!

Just don't see a big deal when a thread wonders off-course. YMMV.

Nor do I, happens all the time, I'd rather have a thread mutate naturally and not be controlled so rigidly. What I am having issues with is that regardless of it being the last live action Trek adventure since 2005, Trek XI was out nearly a year and half ago, it's also got it's whole section still devoted to it on this Trek BBS. If people what to fight over whether Spock should have asked permission to come aboard Enterprise or if it's the greatest film ever or the crappiest ever, fair enough, the Literature section of the board is not the place to do it.

The original point I was responding to was that XI didn't come across as a buddy picture to me. One part of the scene I quoted was latched onto and took on a life of it's own. It wasn't even the main part of the comment. Such is life on the intertubes.

I've still not finished reading this yet, been distracted by real life problems, but did finish reading the first draft and thought it was interesting. I'm wondering why Michael didn't revisit Picard's two closest friends from "Tapestry"? I know that a general audience wouldn't know who Cory or Marta but I'm sure that he could have spent a couple of minutes explaining who they are. I wonder now after reading the first draft if this is where the plot of the TNG Section 31 book comes from since Cory and Marta were used in that. Looking forward to reading the next draft.

For anyone who is interested...

I took the original word doc and made it a book, with illustrations, photos etc
Just for fun, just for me. But if anyone want a copy, you can download it from the above link.

It's not my intention to go against the Piller families wishes, the original doc is out there anyway.

Does it include that missing draft of the script?

Pineapples101, I know you said that this is just for yourself and a bit of fun, but the Piller family has objected the whole book been released before, they have a right for not wanting the document be available. So I went ahead and deleted all the links here.

I'm not sure why the family didn't want the book released. It's a shame. And this version is a beauty, so it's a double shame.
