FaceOff

I suspect the cobblestone makeup would have won, if he hadn't stuffed a plant in the model's ass. That one decision ruined the whole effect.

You may be onto something there!

Damn butt-weeds!

He certainly would have had a better shot at winning, but I'm not convinced that the picture itself would have been "better" (unless "better" simply means more acceptable by a wide audience).

It had nothing to do with being acceptable. It has to do with the illusion. The cobblestone illusion was just as good as the winning one (and more visually stimulating than a wall of monochrome), except once an observer notices the plant in the model's ass, that's all they can see and the illusion is ruined. See the butt weed, lose the game. ;)

i've found it an interesting show. Next week's show looks really neat, where they have to make an alien. Would love to see michael westmore be a guest judge.

I didn't realize the host was Westmore's daughter!

And it looks like your wish will be granted....Michael Westmore IS going to be a judge:

Interesting article. Thanks for posting that.

I have to wonder, though: Are old-fashioned makeup artists going to be obsolete in a generation or so? Why bury an actor in uncomfortable latex getups when you can just transform them via CGI?

On the subject of eliminations, I do find it interesting that the winner of the challenge gets to recommend who should get chopped to the judges. As mentioned, I don't watch a lot of reality shows so I'm not sure if that's a fairly common thing or not. I'd just be curious about potential bias.

Actually, I've watched a lot of reality shows and I've never seen that wrinkle before. Not sure if it works or not.

RuPaul asks the contestants who should be eliminated, but she does it in front of everyone. Maximum dramatic eye-rolling and "oh no she di'int" head wobbles that way... :D

And the guy that got eliminated deserved it imo. WTF was he doing?

I actually enjoyed his concept, it was the lack of execution that did him in. An aborigine caught in a windstorm in the Australian outback. Lots of very dramatic potential there. Since most of the other entries were fairly static, his could have really stood out. Sad that the artist didn't see it through.

I was about to throw the remote into my tv when it looked like the judges were gonna can Anthony & let Frank pass(seriously how did that guy even get past the early selection process?)

I know, thank god they finally got rid of Frank, a.k.a. "Mr. Shortcut." And what was with his weird reaction at the end? I guess that explain why he never wanted to work too hard on any on the competitions. He just wasn't interested in competing.

(Which makes you wonder why he applied in the first place.)

I'm so happy they finally tossed him, especially after he tried to make Anthony look bad. His reaction struck me as someone just trying to save face and make it somehow look like he got what he really wanted. That's my guess, at least. I mean, his behavior has been baffling to begin with, so I suppose he might as well be weird about his exit, too. :vulcan: (Incidentally, Frank apparently posts as "ClarkGriswold" at the SyFy board for FaceOff, but he hasn't explained himself any further at this point.)

I thought it was interesting that Conor seems to have taken a mutual shine to Megan and didn't waste any time in going after Tom on the dais. And then seemed rather shocked to find that the judges chose to cut Frank instead. (Eh, I think it was a close call between them; again, glad they gave Frank the boot.) Meantime, I hope Conor and Megan don't get so wrapped up in making eyes at each other that they botch their chances at winning.

Loved that (was it Conor and Jo? Gage and Marcel? Gosh, I can't remember!) came in to lend Tate and Sam a hand with their molds. I'd really like to see more of that, rather than the in-fighting. I'd also like to see more of them actually explaining what they're doing, how the process works, the tools they use...but that's probably just me. Anyway, looking forward to next week's challenge.

I kind of got the impression that Megan's got more of the shine for Conor than is returned at the moment, but I could be wrong. The really sad thing is, Frank and Anthony's alien could have been pretty cool if Frank actually did any work. :p I felt sorry for Anthony.

CRAP! I forgot to watch Wed night. I think they rerun the previous week's ep earlier in the day on wednesdays...going to have to look for it. Happy to hear they tossed Frank. I didn't think he wanted to really put any work into his projects, and the way he treated his model the week before was shameful. Glad to hear he's gone!

since I don't have cable it's been hard to keep up with the show, but I'm really enjoying it so far :D

I really liked Conor and Jo's alien, and I loved the way the judges psyched them out :D

Since I don't go there, would you mind recapping any explanation he gives on that board?

Frank really must not be interested in this as a profession. Who'd want to publicize their extreme laziness to people who may be doing the hiring in the future? M-O-R-O-N.

Sure. So far he hasn't really addressed it, though. He has shown up to address a thread called "Frank Ippolito: Embarrassment to Cleveland" ( http://forums.syfy.com/index.php?showtopic=2353524 ), wherein a board member sums up his failings on the show. Frank's answer? It's all "spin". (As in, the show is edited to make him look like the bad guy.)

Exactly! I don't get it, either -- I mean, nothing like torpedoing your freaking career path, right?! And not just the laziness, but his good-I-wanted-to-go-anyway at getting eliminated can't have gone over well, either.

Fun episode last night.

I would've gone for "Him" as Best of Show, but they came up with some interesting villains.

But Norman Bates was one of the "original screen villains"? That movie came out in the sixties! I guess everything before the modern era doesn't count anymore . . . . .

Absolutely. This is a niche show. The ratings may end up being terrible, but it's almost a sure bet that the show will be watched by most of the people actually hiring in that profession. Frank basically put a big sign on himself saying, "Do not hire me."
