Facebook trekkies?

I think I figured out my quandry and don't mind posting my facebook on here. Go ahead and add me if you want:

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=77002469

Just tell me who you are so my first thought is not that of suspicion. ;)

Well, I should have read the second half of that sentence before I clicked on the link.

Well, I think I could figure it out. Glad to see that facebook group is going strong too. Need something facebook related and trekbbs related to catch on. ;)

Is there a way to have the same Facebook account, but keep things separated, like what happens in real life and what happens here. The thing is and the reason I'm hesitant to post my facebook page is that that has been mainly for friends I've met in real life, and I don't want them to know I post here. On the same end though, I've posted here for such a long time that it would be awesome to connect on facebook.

Of course I can probably create another Facebook account, but like here, that might be frowned upon there. Basically, is there a way to keep internet and real life separate for the time being, at least until I meet you guys in real life?

If you want to keep it totally separate, you probably just need another account. I have different settings for different friends, and you can limit what people can see (or respond to), but if you want to keep it completely separate then there's no other way to do it.

Well, I just checked, and it's a violation of their terms of use to get another facebook account. How do I set it up to have different settings for different friends. I've just been looking at it and have an idea, but are there easy ways to do it. I guess what I'm thinking is the whole News feed thing. If someone I know in real life comes and sees my profile and it says "posted ............. on ........... wall", that's not exactly what I want.

You can use the lists, to seperate friends into categories. I do that with mine. Sometimes if there is something which I don't want certain people see (or vice-versa), I use the particular list. Can be used with photos also.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. I'm finding it really useful after learning a lot about it today.

As others have said you can set different privacy settings for groups of friends. Eg. You can set your regular friends to see everything. But you can create another group for coworkers, bosses, teachers, relatives, trekbbs members, whatever that can only see your basic info. That way we won't see your drunken party pictures or anything else embarrassing your friends might post on your wall. (of course it would be more entertaining for Trekbbs members if you did not do this )

But if that still doesn't satisfy you, just use a different email address to create another facebook account. Set up a new hotmail account or something.

Hmmm, I didn't realise you could have group-based settings. I already use groups so I think I may want to do that. No sense sharing my family photos with the universe...

Neither did I! I'm going to have to check this out. This would solve a number of issues.

Mr Ingram has done a fabulous job of putting names to TBBS names, if you're on the site you should have it. Thanks TM :)

Awwww, shucks. :o Thanks.

Ditto; I use groups already but didn't realize you could assign different privacy settings to them. I will definitely look into that. It would help me not piss off any more work people by telling them I just don't "friend" work folks on FB.

LINK

Just re-posting it as the previous one got buried. It'd be useful if the board already had a Facebook link in the corner of a poster's name or in the profile or something.

Here's a quick Facebook-related question, does anyone know if there's way to permanently make your News Feed display things chronologically? That's the way I have to set it every day as it automatically defaults itself to "Most Popular" after some indeterminate period of time. I prefer it the former way given that it tells me the things people have posted most recently rather than, you know, at some point in the near past but it just happens to have been read/liked/clicked on the most.

Is that what it's doing? I didn't really get that, only that I needed to click the Facebook link on the page to get new stuff. Seriously that and not having a simple link to view your pages as well as friends (I'm sure it's there, but damned if I can find it) on the main page are my biggest annoyances with Facebook.
