Facebook Follies

While I'd fiddled around with Facebook for a while, I actually never spent much time with it until recently (just the past few months - it started probably right around the time everybody else is getting tired of it!) when I decided I needed to set up a Facebook page for the organization I work for. Then I decided I'd better get fairly good at it before I put something out there branded with my employer's good name for all the world to see, so I ended up playing with my own user profile first.

And as many of you know, it's really kind of fun. It has its problems and annoyances, but it has provided some enjoyable moments.

So what I'd like to know is...what has been your best or weirdest or whateverest Facebook encounter? So far, my best has actually been the chance of regular contact with my siblings. We've always kept in touch, but it's been phone calls now and then, and with Facebook, I get little bits of news almost every day.

But the second best so far been getting reacquainted with the guy I went, I swear, to senior prom with. (Edit: Do I need to translate "senior prom" for non-Americans? You tell me.) He was really, really good and nice and sincere and smart and funny (and good looking, might I add ;) ) when we were in high school together, and from what I can tell so far, he's still really, really good and nice and sincere and smart and funny (and good looking, might I add ;) ) now that he's all grown up.

But what about some of you? Anything you'd care to share?

10 years ago a friend of mine went for a holiday overseas and never returned because she meet the 'love of her life'.

We lost contact and a month or so I found out she had a Facebook account so I joined Facebook and sent her a message. She was happy to hear from me.

I have also located a few other old friends including one lady who left Tasmania more than 20 years ago.

I also enjoy playing Zoo World on Facebook.

I've reconnected with some people I knew several years ago. I didn't have too many friends in high school, so it's nice to have been able to get back in touch with those few I had.

There's one in particular whose mind I think just exploded with all of the possible responses when I informed him that Kraft Dinner goes best with HP Fruity Sauce.

I got on FB a couple of years ago following my highschool 20th reunion.. We had such a fantastic time at the event, we wanted to keep the good times rolling. As a result, I've stayed close with a bunch of the kids I reconnected with at the reunion. It's been a blast..

I've also reconnected with kids I went to elementary school with, who I hadn't seen or heard from since I moved in the 5th grade. Talk about surreal. Also reconnected with a couple of old college girlfriends and gotten to know them again, this time as friends with no hangups.

And then there's Farmville.. As dumb as it is, it's addicting and a LOT of fun, especially competeing with my wife on how much stuff we can accumulate. She's kicking my ass at it, however. LOL...

I think the best part of Facebook is that I've gotten to know the "real faces" behind the posters here on the BBS.

Frightening, isn't it?

Well my face is. Why do you think I haven't shown a picture of myself since around Christmas time.

I've found many people I have lost contract with over the years. Got a reunion later this year for when I left year 10 to move to Townsville.

I've had fun with some reconnecting.

My family moved several time growing up and one fell at a school change juncture. (elementary to junior high, junior to senior high) So each time l lost track of the whole lot. So I've managed to friend a few of those folks from those times. Not much more that a friendly, "how are you?" But fun none the less.

You people are even bigger nerds than I had originally thought.

Hey now! I am not a nerd. I am a geek.

And I really like having faces with names now. I actually feel like I am conversing with a real person. I usually prefer face to face conversations rather than computers or the phone. They both lack the subtle nuances that make a conversation great. My humor runs on the dry or sarcastic side, neither of which works well on a computer.

But I love Facebook. I have been on it for two years now. I am not into the games (except Farm Town) and I could care less about collecting friends. I enjoy it because I get to keep up with friends, old friends, family and a few celebrities. It makes things easier for me since I am so far away from a lot of them these days.

On the contrary, your humor comes across extremely well online, you're one of the lucky few. With me however, without my crazy, wacky, over-the-top gesturing and such, my eccentricities lose a lot of their charm.

For me the best part of Facebook is keeping in real time contact with my neice when we chat at impromptue moments. Also, I enjoy touching base with friends I've generally lost touch with. For me the worst part of Facebook is all the boring games updates, but they don't irritate or bother me too much.

Really? I find myself having to explain things often so I just assumed I was missing the mark.

(Of course I post a lot more crazy shit on Facebook more than I do here. :rommie: I may have just gotten you good and broken in.)

And I find you very funny, even without the gesturing. :D You should see me act out all the parts when I tell a story. People think I am nuts.

This is very possible. :shifty:

That's very reassuring, I very often worry that people take my off-the-wall craziness too seriously.
