Ezri or Jadzia

Which Dax did people like better? I just watched DS9 all the way through for the first time on Netflix. I found Jadzia rather annoying in the early episodes. It was a combination of the acting and of the writers not seeming to know quite what to do with her. The episode where she tried to turn herself into an energy being to be with someone she had known a few weeks (and who was never mentioned again) was ridiculous. She seemed to improve in later seasons and was more rounded. I liked her experience and the history of Dax, her connection with Sisco and had mixed reactions to her with Worf.

I suspect I would have preferred Ezri if she had been on the show longer. She was an appealing character in her own right. I enjoyed the serial killer episode and her scenes with Worf and her background as a counselor.

I like Ezri because she's captain of the Aventine, and her story in the books is quite good. Hope they have her in the new Picard show Electric boogaloo.

They're both different characters. I found Ezri's character more interesting because she didn't plan or necessarily even desire to be a host. With Jazdia there was far too much "Remember how interesting I USED to be, Sisko!?" moments, that tried to pull the audience in to the character but just left us realizing, she apparently used to be cooler. It's like some middle aged guy in the break room trying to tell everyone about that time he was in a Steve Miller cover band..Ok.

Ezri was more of a fresh start, in that regard. Same memories but not revelling in them, learning to use them to become a new person though while still maintaining her career as a counselor.

Also she was extremely cute.

The writers didn't know what to do with Jadzia so half the time she reminisced about her former hosts. I liked her in the first three seasons before she became DS9's resident wisecracking Klingon fan girl. I did find her death to be moving, since she was planning to start a family with Worf and Terry Farrell gave a good final performance. I also enjoyed her relationships with Quark and Bashir.

Time travel. Then, both in the crew at once.

I'm slightly fonder of Ezri, but I still really liked Jadzia as a character.

I like Ezri but I'm all for Jadzia. I liked her way better. It would've been better if Season 7 had both Ezri AND Jadzia.

Jadzia. Ezri had some more interesting stuff here and there, but it's hard to resist Terry Farrel.

But with Ezri you have both.
My head canon: ASIT is a love letter to Bashir. Ezri reads it, and when Julian balks at going to Cardassia (like Odo, he knows that once he gets there he'll never leave) she goes. By the time Julian arrives, she and Garak have fallen in love. The three of them become enjoined and they adopt a bunch of Cardassian orphans, starting with the group that Julian and Garak saw in Cardassians.

Ezri. Better written and better acted. Yes, you could argue that's because the writers had a better idea what to do with Ezri, but they also could have Ezri do things that Farrell couldn't make work for Jadzia.

If there was a DS9 character I would love to see on the new Picard series, it's Ezri. They can just make what happens in the books Canon because of the 20 year gap.

With that said I used to be a big Jadzia fan but I think I like Ezri more now .

Jadzia was part of the family for so many years.........Ezri never had enough time to become so. But she was cute.

I thought it was a complete betrayal of the character to add the Klingon nonsense to her dossier, and later shagging her up with Worf. Ezri was fine but I preferred Jadzia in her 1st 3 seasons.

Jadzia from Season 2 and 3 was really great. I especially liked Equilibrium (The episode where we first meet Joran) and wish Facets would have been a direct continuation of that with Joran not being as psychotic.

Hmmm. I thought that element supported why the Trill Sciences made such a cover up to suppress Joran, and I loved Avery Brooks chilling interpretation of the character. Sad the War show tarnished his contribution.

It was, but it was such a different character from Equilibrium to Facets. Equilibrium he was sinister and multi-layered. In Facets, it seemed like he was too cartoonish.

The Joran portion of Facets was brief, and that was not what the episode was about; I thought Curzon was bit cartoonish. It seems these kinds of stories some how has to be about the old man secretly being a dirty old man.
