Exploring the Uncharted Territories: A Farscape Viewing Experience

Revenging Angel
- Just when I thought this show couldn't get any crazier... they throw animation into the mix. Really interesting timing, too, that I happen to be watching this episode tonight - last night I went to see Howl with a couple friends, and that film incorporated animated sequences to present an interpretation of Ginsberg's poem. Of course, those sequences weren't amusing Looney Tunes-inspired scenes.
- Jool has grown in my estimation slowly over the course of this season, especially in this episode when she started crying as Pilot laid out his plan for the survival of the crew. Her reluctance to abandon Pilot & Moya immediately wins points with me, even though the crisis situation was her fault and the reluctance may have only been borne out of guilt. Her self-evaluations during her conversation with D'Argo also play a large role in raising my opinion of her.
- When the animation first started, I wasn't sure how to take it, if I was going to like the inclusion or not. By the end of the episode, I had thoroughly enjoyed all of it and thought the way that the animation interweaved with the live-action was well-done. This episode was yet another good mixture of over-the-top insanity and more serious, introspective issues.
- Now that D'Argo has control over his little ship, it looks to be pretty darn nifty. Can't wait to see it in action.
The Choice
- I was surprised - though pleasantly, of course, since it was such a good episode - to see "The Locket" brought back into relevancy here.
- I knew Xhalax wasn't dead. I love being right. I also loved Stark's tough-guy act holding a pulse pistol on Crais when he and Rygel demanded answers from him.
- This was, of course, a very melancholy episode, and I appreciate that the show took the time to show us Aeryn wallowing in depression and despair away from Talyn and constant crises. I wasn't at all surprised that "Talyn" wasn't really Aeryn's father; I think that would have been too much in the way of long-lost relationship reunions, but I hadn't guessed he would be working for Xhalax - I expected him to be on his own little scheme, as so many other encountered aliens have been. I'm not surprised Aeryn didn't believe in his ruse, since that would have made her much more gullible than she had always been portrayed, even given her grief and all the alcohol she was consuming.
- Stark needs to stop being a yo-yo and just stick around, damnit. Also, watching Aeryn telling her hallucination of Crichton that he needed to leave was difficult, since that's how I'm expecting her to treat Moya-Crichton. It's interesting to contrast that scene, though, with Moya-Crichton's defiant "I love Aeryn" statement in the previous episode; he's going to be in for a rude awakening.
Fractures
- Since most of my expectations regarding the Aeryn/Crichton "reunion" have started to be realized during this episode, I'm not sure what else to say about that situation, which leaves me at a loss as to what to say about this episode more generally since the romance issues are such a large part of the plot here.
- It was rather odd to see another group of PK prisoners that was so similar in species disposition to our crew. On that note, I don't want to think about Hynerian sex ever again - ever.
- The rescue of Rygel scene was pretty kickass. It was great not to have to wait too long to see D'Argo's ship get some use.
- To sum it up, good episode and a proper "reunion" of the crews into one, even if it did end with Crichton, Aeryn, and Crais setting off on their own to take on Scorpy. A different take on the always-looming PK threat was nice, and it was cool to see a non-enemy Scarren for a change.

Annoying, isn't it?
The next episode, "I Yensch, You Yensch" is kind of silly. It's one of those "what is this episode doing here?" kind of episodes, like "Bone to Be Wild" was in Season 1. It has some things going on that are related to the arc, but I feel like it really interrupts the flow of the season.
That said, the final 3 episodes of this season are absolutely fantastic.
Hmm... sorry to break up the flow of this thread again... but I was wondering why there were only two episodes on the disc with Out of Their Minds and My Three Crichtons. And then lo and behold I found Re:United in the special features, with no explanation as to what it was or why it was recut. I remember seeing the special presentation of this back in the day, but its placement on the DVDs is bizarre.
I thought it had something to do with getting the final four episodes on the same disc.

The first 4-5 episodes are really nicely done. They usually don't plan ahead but the way season 2 flows into season 3 is really nicely down.
By the way, if you guys ever get a chance, and you have the A&E sets, watch Farscape: Undressed. It's mostly a recapping of the first two seasons, but it's hosted by Browder and Black and it's well worth it just for that alone. I bring it up because the one thing I will always remember going from Season 2 to Season 3 and that whole transition was that special, and I was happy when they included it with the "new" sets.
I think they played it the same night as the Season 3 Premiere.

I go back and forth with "I Yensch, You Yensch" but I think what sells it is the fantastic pairing of Rygel and Scorpius.
