I never understood the UFO hullabaloo. Of course there are UFO's, you look up and see something that you don't recognize. You don't know if its a bird, a plane or a frog. By definition that is an Unidentified Flying Object.
Now whether there are alien spacecraft - that is a completely unrelated subject.

I would tend to agree.
Why is UFO automatically attributed to alien spacecrafts?
I mean, there is a very high probability that we are not alone in the galaxy, let alone the universe ... not to mention that it IS possible spacefaring alien civilizations exist ... and that they might have (key word 'might') visited us ... but automatically attribute everything to aliens?
That's idiotic.
I can definitely imagine most UFO's being just that ... and quite possibly experimental aircrafts the governments created.
How many of those were actual aliens though, we have 0 clue.
We don't have any hard evidence to back it up, and for now we can only theorize on what the UFO's actually are.

Given that there are so many types of Identified flying objects, why does everyone - believer and skeptic alike - assume and try to make out that there is only one explanation for *un*identified objects?

The whole alien thing in general is a bit of a toss up for me....I can't honestly think that we are the only ones in existance, it's just far too big of a galaxy out there and so many planets that we can't exactly go and visit to see if anyone/anything lives there.
UFOs (the types people think aliens are on) are just a bit silly. I can't imagine why aliens would just openly fly to earth in their ship and then disappear. You'd think that a ship from some other planet would maybe burn up before it reaches earth....and if not, why wouldn't they land here and say hi or something? What's the point in just flying over a place and then going away?

Well, one of the possible explanations could be that they have a non-interference policy as far as primitive cultures are concerned ... and we would be a primitive culture since we don't have the ability of interstellar flight.
When it comes to humanity ... some of us would be perfectly fine with the idea of aliens visiting us and making contact ... but let's be frank, with the uneducated masses of people in the world today, there would likely be panic, not to mention conflicts over religious dogmas and whatnot.
The system in power could possibly collapse as people would be forced to face the premise that we are the centre of the universe as some may think and changes would have to ensue.
