Explain your user name!

Look Dennis, there's some lovely filth down here!

Whoa, triple post! I never even had a double before. Must have been a witch.

I love learning how everyone came up with their names! Thanks for sharing peoples!!

Kirby is my dog. When I registered I froze and couldn't think of a cool user name so I looked around and Kirby the wiener dog was sitting at my feet.

Awww i love this!

I wanted to call myself Thelin (I just made up a word that sounded good), but that username was already in use, so I decided to have a username that told who's my favorite Trek character (Reg Barclay). Not very imaginative but fitting since I love him so much.

I love Reg too. He's such a regular guy.

Mine derives from a phrase that was used twice in a genre TV show a few years back. The name of the TV show sounds like "Fluffy the Umpire Player".

I love Buffy but i still can't figure out how ITL was used!!

That was my supper the night i decided to stop lurking and join up to Trekbbs.

LOL!!! i love it!!!

Man. You people are demanding. "Explain this" and "explain that". Geeze.

"Squiggy" was my nickname in high school. The beginning of my freshman year I was befriended by some seniors who asked if they could call me that and - willing to do whatever it took to get into their good graces, I accepted. They named me that because I sounded like Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. I then went to college in my hometown with people who knew me as Squiggy in high school. I started radio at my college station, got my internship via said station, and got several gigs in radio based off that so the name stuck with me until I moved to Atlanta at the age of 25.

I think that's really cool, that you still have a nickname from HS.

I was Tuln (from a character I had in both WoW and D and D) but it was very similar to Tulin, another user. Since I am a pastafarian, I decided to name myself after the owner of the great noodly appendage

rAMEN!

It's a nickname from high school. Since I'm in an aviation organization that once flew them and I enjoy studying Vietnam era aviation I decided to use the handle in honor of the men that flew O-1s as FACs.

That's awesome.

My name is my re-enactment name which originally came from a character in The Keltiad series by Patricia Kenneally-Morrison. I changed the spelling slightly.

GREAT picture/avatar!!

My beautiful cat, Kira, thought I was her mother, so I started calling myself Kira's Mom.

She passed away last October. :( She was a precious kitty:

WOW. She was beautiful. {{hug}}

Tom Riley is a sort of alter ego I kinda came up with several years ago.
<snip>
.

That is just too cool!!

The idea was to find an anagram for my name but that did not really work, since my username misses a letter. But I liked it and it has stuck with me for ten years already.

This is so boring. But what the hey.

"Kate" comes from my initials - which were (when I was growing up) K-D==> Kaydee==> Katie. Get it? Yeah. See, I told you it was boring.

"JustKate" is a little less prosaic. Originally, back when I was first getting involved in the Internet and chatrooms and such, I was Kissmekate (from the musical)...but as those of you who were around in those days probably remember, the Internet used to be FLOODED with horny 13-year-old guys who took any vaguely feminine screen name as a come-on. So you can imagine how many of them were driven almost to a frenzy by the word "Kiss." :rommie:

I don't know now many hormone-tormented boys urged me, over and over again, "Let's go private, Kate!!!!" (except that virtually all of them left off the apostrophe and misspelled "private") and would not take no for an answer, but the answer is "LOTS."

And thus was "JustKate" born. I still got hit on, of course, but at least I didn't personally hand them a ready-made come-on. (Yes, I realize I could have simply used a gender-neutral name. But I don't know...some people might like that absolute neutrality, but I don't. I like to be myself online, and being a female is part of that, of course.)

Around here, people assume - understandably - that "Kate" is a Katherine Janeway reference. It's not though - nothing against the good captain, but I don't really identify with her enough to name myself after her. Besides, I was Kate long before Voyager came around.

Obviously, I'm a big fan of DS9. And, being of Latino heritage, I punned on the name of O. Henry's Latino western hero, the Cisco Kid. The 888 is a number connected to my job.

.

Actually, it wasn't boring at all! I LOL'd at "horny 13 yr old boys"!!! Thanks Kate!!

I killed Abraham Lincoln.

:rommie: Spewed my coffee on this one!!!!!

And here, i was thinking it was from the song. I am so very old!!!! (Sisko kid, was a friend of mine!)

My glorious user name came about as the result of a lucky typo, I originally intended for it to be Thot Damar but fortunately I entered it as Thor Damar, which works a lot better IMHO.

The 'surname' is of course a tribute to one of my favorite Cardassians and the 'forename' refers to one of my favorite fictional characters, Thor, Norse god of thunder. (Although in actuality it has more to do with the Douglas Adams' Thor that we saw in LTU&E than the mythological gentleman with a hammer and foul temper)

Lots o' Vikings in Northern Michigan - I'm sure Thor was not bad tempered - just misunderstood! ;)

I used to be cmdrxeris, which was the rank and name of my Romulan chief engineer for my fanfic but when I made captain on the BBS I had it changed to Xeris but I got bored with it, and changed it to BrotherBenny, which is what the "Crazy Preacher/Joseph Sisko" calls Benny Russell in the DS9 episode Far Beyond The Stars

137th Gebirg - short for 137th Austrian Gebirgsjäger Regiment, 2nd Mountain Division - my old WWII reenacting unit from many moons ago...

Apparently, before The God Thing was known as Mr Stinky Pants, he was The Great Mambo Chicken.

I believe he was TGMC in between, after MSP and before TGT. Only for a year or so, as I recall.

I had no idea that name came from anywhere else. When you took it on, I thought you were in collaboration with him, or else mocking him.

As for me:
Silvercrest is the name of a family of D&D adventurers I've been playing since the early 1980s, so named because they have a white streak in their hair.

Lithe, Lord Silvercrest (aka Lt. Lithe Silvercrest)
Laurie Silvercrest
Tron Silvercrest
Kari Silvercrest
Lithe II, Prince Silvercrest
Angela Silvercrest
Jericho Silvercrest
Mark Silvercrest
Kalen Silvercrest

I took the name partly so that I'd be identifiable to the other players if they ever came on this board. To date, none of them ever have. :(

My signatures are based on a joke that one of the Silvercrests is wandering around Moria and can't find his way out. He sees a lot of the events of LOTR from a different perspective.

Chaos Descending is the name of the band my friends and I were in back in high school.

We wrote song lyrics, but none of us knew how to play instruments.
