Explain The Origin Of Your Username...

Pretty simple. My name is Rodney and for some reason or another people starting calling me "Hot Rod" from about the time I was 6 years old. 21 years later and the name just stuck.

Mine is a reference to the Alan Parsons Project. linky

Specifically:
At the beginning of 1985, the lead single "Let's Talk About Me" reached the Top 40 in Germany (where the album was #1), in Switzerland (where Vulture Culture was #2) and in the Netherlands[3]. The song features voice-over commentary from Lee Abrams, credited on the album as "Mr. Laser Beam" (an anagram of his name).

It is a complete and utter coincidence that my username has the initials M.L.B. ;)

^ That was the username I had when I first joined this board back in '02. Then for awhile I switched to using the name Babaganoosh (a reference to one of my favorite TV series, MXC):

Then a few years ago, I got seriously hooked on baseball, so I changed BACK to my original username. So in that sense, it is no coincidence. But it mostly is. :D

By trying to think of some kinda of interesting thought for a name I thought think.

It's my real name.

randomly, we did a game like this on another forum...

the game was to head over to UrbanDictionary and type in your username, then post the first one that came up...

some of them are actually quite funny, but it doesn't work for everyone sadly

M
Yeah, that would work out well for me.

Rendevous with Rama, by Arthur C Clarke: It is a mysterious alien spacecraft the size of Manhattan that is named "Rama" by Project Spaceguard (since then Spaceguard is now a reality). I finished a re-read of the book and I just got my new computer then in 1995, and was at a loss for what my nick would be. It was only meant to be temporary but it stuck. It's only a coincidence that Rama is an incarnation of the Hindi god Vishnu, which is the epitome of maleness. I also always like telling people I was huge, like the Rama ship. :bolian:

I was a fan of the show Seven Days in which Project Back Step routinely sent an agent back 7 days to prevent some disaster-of-the-week
this was back in the days of AOL Instant Messenger, and 'backstep' was already in use and 'backstept' was one of the alternate suggestions
it's been my internet handle ever since

My late cat Kira (1995-2009) thought I was her mom. So I became Kira's Mom. Even though I have a new kitten, Rory, I'm never going to change the name.

I realized too late that some posters might think I named myself for Kira Meru, mother of Nerys, mistress of Gul Dukat. D'oh!

From the Urban Dictionary:

GOLIATH

*A term referring to something enormous in size and structure.

*A major figurehead in the Bible. He was an enormous man who was almost unstoppable.....almost, because David chucked a rock at his forehead and down went Goliath!

*A term referring to a man of enormous structure.

A very polite young man. Goliath's are often very well muscled but do not use that strength for fighting unless absolutely necessary. Goliath's are respective of woman and often considered the perfect gentleman, although the long hair is sometimes misleading.

A Goliath is an abnormally large penis. It usually hangs on beings with luscious black locks and Jew curls who are ripped.

A girl on a cruise from Minnesota with huge boobs... and loves to flaunt it.

Denoting an extra large penis.

Goliath derives from the nickname given to David for his unknown sized penis by his bomb ass friends who hit up White Castle cuz itz da shit. (Etc. etc.)

my name is derived from Captain Mackenzie Calhoun, star of the New Frontier series of ST novels. he is a total badass and one of my favourite characters in anything.

"Where No Man Has Gone Before" is my favorite episode of "Star Trek" and Gary Mitchell was such a badass that I decided to use his name.

Years and years ago, when the game of Paintball first started...I started a business...I picked up the nick name Sgt. A few years later, I accepted Christ about the same time Combat Flight Sim became big online. Thats when Microsoft still hosted the games..it was awseome. Any ways, I needed a handle for that when I tried to use "Angel" as my handle, it was already taken...so I took my first nick name and added it to my second desired name and became "Sgt Angel" the end :0)
